However, I&#8217;ve still picked out three releases that are worth your time.<\/p>\n<p>Two of them,\u00a0<strong>Coheed and Cambria<\/strong>&#8216;s\u00a0<em>&#8216;The Father of Make Believe&#8217;<\/em> and\u00a0<em>&#8216;Let the Light In&#8217;<\/em> by US shoegaze\/post-rock\/metal quartet\u00a0<strong>SOM<\/strong> are covered in detail elsewhere on the site. While J-Rock mob\u00a0<strong>Man With A Mission<\/strong>&#8216;s 15th birthday EP,\u00a0<em>&#8216;XV&#8217;<\/em>, is both a celebration and solid entry point for the Wolf mask-wearing group.<\/p>\n<p>Among today&#8217;s other releases,\u00a0<strong>Haken<\/strong> guitarist Charlie Griffiths assumes the moniker of\u00a0<strong>Tiktaalika <\/strong>as his new record, <em>&#8216;Gods Of Pangaea&#8217;,\u00a0<\/em>thrives in melodic metal. With cameos from several vocalists including Tommy Rogers (Between The Buried &amp; Me), and Rody Walker (Protest The Hero), Griffiths and. <strong>Tiktaalika<\/strong> celebrates the power of the riff in abundance. Griffiths isn&#8217;t the only one going solo this week. <strong>Ricky Warwick<\/strong>, vocalist for <strong>Black Star Riders<\/strong> and <strong>The Almighty<\/strong>, drops\u00a0<em>&#8216;Blood Ties&#8217;<\/em>. As you can expect, it&#8217;s the usual set of rousing hard rock that\u00a0<strong>Warwick<\/strong> is associated with. Meanwhile,\u00a0<strong>Porcupine Tree<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>Steven Wilson<\/strong> is proficient as ever as he delivers\u00a0<em>&#8216;The Overview&#8217;<\/em>. That is where\u00a0<strong>Coheed and Cambria<\/strong>\u00a0frontman Claudio Sanchez finds himself as the band release their 11th album.\u00a0<em>\u2018The Father of Make Believe\u2019<\/em>\u00a0is the third act in\u00a0<em>\u2018Vaxis\u2019<\/em>\u00a0five-part narrative. However, Sanchez considers this album a<em>\u00a0\u201cmidlife crisis\u201d<\/em>. It sees him intertwining personal experiences into\u00a0<em>\u2018Vaxis\u2019<\/em>\u00a0(and\u00a0<em>\u2018The Amory<\/em>\u00a0Wars\u2019) overarching narrative.<\/p>\n<p>For example, the succulent power ballad,\u00a0<em>\u2018Meri of Mercy\u2019<\/em>, sees him pay tribute to his late Grandparents in the form of familiar characters; Sirius and Meri Amory. Weaving loss into his fictional narrative allows Sanchez to reunite the pair.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\/review-coheed-and-cambria-the-father-of-make-believe\/\">Read the full review here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-98426\" src=\"https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Man-With-A-Mission.webp\" alt=\"Man With A Mission Promo image\" width=\"2500\" height=\"1667\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<h2>Man With A Mission &#8211; XV EP<\/h2>\n<p>The Wolf head-wearing Japanese outfit known as <b>Man With A Mission<\/b> are celebrating their 15th anniversary with an EP coincidentally titled\u00a0<em>&#8216;XV&#8217;<\/em>. With eight live songs from a show in Mexico last year tacked on, the EP part can be misleading. However, it does contain four new songs that scurry across hard rock, nu-metal, and alt-rock\/metal as the half-man half-wolf collective showcase their brand of J-rock.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8216;Vertigo&#8217;<\/em> is an adrenaline-rush with a thunderous rhythm section, record scratches, rapid vocals, and a massive hooky chorus. As an opener, it succeeds in its intentions; sounding bold and defiant.\u00a0<em>&#8216;Circles&#8217;\u00a0<\/em>maintains the momentum, packing a hefty punch through its soaring chorus. Its introspective words organically give the track an emotional layer, before pulsating electro beats make a brief appearance.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8216;Reaching For The Sky&#8217;<\/em> sees those beats in full force, supporting the only Japanese-sung original here. With its fast tempo and energetic melody, it&#8217;s a thrillingly upbeat offering serving as a whirlwind reminder of what\u00a0<b>Man With A Mission<\/b><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>are all about.\u00a0The &#8220;main&#8221; portion of\u00a0<em>&#8216;XV&#8217;<\/em> closes on a more reflective note. <em>&#8216;whispers of the fake&#8217;<\/em> brushes with a hint of country rock alongside brooding hard rock. Words of deception and disillusionment merely add to the darker tone.<\/p>\n<p>The addition of eight live fan favourites serves as a thank you to those who have been with <strong>MWAM<\/strong> for the past 15 years.\u00a0 While as a collection, <em>&#8216;XV&#8217;<\/em> fulfils its purpose of celebrating the milestone with the four new tracks showing there&#8217;s plenty of life in these wolves just yet.\u00a0 Furthermore, it&#8217;s an ideal entry point to\u00a0<strong><b>Man With A Mission<\/b><\/strong>&#8216;s genre-crossing brand of rock. While past releases saw them dwell on the darkness of the world, this new eight-track collection aims to be introspective, as the quartet seek solace and reconciliation from themselves and others around them. It also sees the line-up be reconfigured as Justin Forrest moved over to drums to replace the departed Duncan Rich. While singer Will Benoit swaps guitar for bass.<\/p>\n<p>On the surface, this is achieved by producing a melancholic series of songs.\u00a0Opener &#8216;Don&#8217;t<em> Look Back&#8217;<\/em> quickly establishes this.
