To say this week’s #NewMusicFriday<\/b> is stacked would be an understatement. While it’s been pretty stressful as an editor, as a music fan, it’s been somewhat joyous to hear a barrage of notable new releases. I wrote in detail about the new releases Deafheaven<\/strong><\/a> and Underoath, <\/strong>elsewhere on the site. The former is probably one of my favourite albums of the year so far. While Underoath<\/strong>‘s ‘The Place After This One’<\/em> is inconsistent.<\/p>\n

There is a barrage of returns today. Lowestoft’s finest rockers,\u00a0The Darkness<\/strong>, are somehow on their eighth album –‘Dreams On Toast’<\/em>. As always, there’s an element of self-awareness to the quartet’s classic rock n’ roll style. New Zealand’s M\u0101ori groove metallers Alien Weaponry<\/strong> deliver ‘Te R\u0101’<\/em>. As ever, they embrace their indigenous roots and combine it with a dynamic brand of metal. Sweden’s\u00a0Arch Enemy<\/strong> add ‘Blood Dynasty’\u00a0<\/em>to their catalogue, providing a routine mix of thunderous thrash metal. If you want something more upbeat, then there is the return of Orchards<\/strong>. ‘<\/em>Bicker’ <\/em>sees<\/span> the Brighton-based trio vibrantly deliver a vulnerable but infectious collection of math-pop.<\/p>\n

On the metalcore front,\u00a0Memphis May Fire<\/strong> serve up\u00a0‘Shapeshifter<\/em>. Despite nearing two decades of activity, the Texans’ energetic sound more often than not sounds formulaic and, at times, unoriginal. Meanwhile, Silent Planet<\/strong> and Invent Animate<\/strong> come together on their collaborative ‘Bloom In Heaven’ <\/em>EP.<\/p>\n

With so much to listen to, there are sure to be some releases that might fall by the wayside. However, I’d recommend new releases from Great Grandpa<\/strong> and\u00a0Forlorn<\/strong>. You can learn more about both albums further down.<\/p>\n

There’s also new music from drone\/doom outfit\u00a0Amenra<\/strong>, introspective post-rockers Telepathy<\/strong>, and Baltimore hardcore punks\u00a0Jivebomb<\/strong>. You can also find new releases from\u00a0The Warriors<\/strong>,\u00a0Lauren Babic<\/strong>,\u00a0False Heads<\/strong>,\u00a0Masters of Reality<\/strong>, and much more.<\/p>\n
