As this site turns another year older (thanks Facebook memories), #NewMusicFriday<\/b> is bolstered by the addition of it being Record Store Day<\/b><\/a> tomorrow. The annual celebration of independent record shops sees a whole host of special vinyl releases. This year, the likes of A Day To Remember,\u00a0Black Sabbath<\/strong>,\u00a0Frank Turner<\/strong>,\u00a0Oasis<\/strong>,\u00a0Judas Priest<\/strong>,\u00a0Rage Against The Machine<\/strong>, and\u00a0the Ramones\u00a0<\/strong>are just some of the names releasing limited vinyl.<\/p>\n

As for the usual #NewMusicFriday\u00a0<\/strong>round of releases, I’d say there’s no stand-out or major release, but as always, there’s plenty of new music to hear. The new releases from\u00a0Magnolia Park<\/strong>, Halflives<\/strong>, and\u00a0Gallus<\/strong> are covered in detail below. In addition to them, there are returns from Dutch symphonic metal band Epica<\/strong>, Danish death metallers\u00a0Cabal<\/strong>, and dynamic Welsh rockers\u00a0Those Damn Crows<\/strong>.\u00a0The latter of these, titled\u00a0‘God Shaped Hole’<\/em>, sees the Bridgend group solidify their place amongst the Alter Bridges of this world, delivering anthemic hard rock in abundance.<\/p>\n

Parisian alt-rockers\u00a0Storm Orchestra<\/strong> aim to share the same space with their debut record – ‘Get Better’.\u00a0<\/em>Packed with stadium-sized hooks, the trio dash between gritty anthemic rock, like on\u00a0‘Drummer’<\/em>, to euphoric rock ballads (‘We Will Be The Last’<\/em>), to adrenlaine-rushed rock (‘Get Back In Time’<\/em>). Aided by a vulnerable lyrical spine,\u00a0‘Get Better’<\/em> is an often fun, if safe, offering.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, German metalcore titans\u00a0Annisokay\u00a0<\/strong>deliver\u00a0‘Abyss Pt. II’.<\/em> Vocalists Rudi Schwarzer and Christoph Wieczorek continue to dynamically bounce off one another, while as a unit they maintain their sonic evolution. That’s despite remaining in the confines of the crushing metalcore scope.\u00a0Within Destruction\u00a0<\/strong>aim to evolve from their deathcore roots on new album,\u00a0‘Animetal’.<\/em> It sees the Slovenian trio bring together their brutal sound with anime-inspired electronic flourishes. It’s a relentless and, at times, versatile offering. Welsh-speaking alt-rockers\u00a0Breichiau Hir<\/strong> aim to showcase a cohesive sound with their new album,\u00a0‘Y Dwylo Uwchben’<\/em> (translation: ‘The Hands Above’<\/em>). With flashes of Manchester Orchestra, their sophomore record radiates with euphoric and emotional choruses.<\/p>\n

Some of today’s other releases come from Bon Iver<\/b>, The Mars Volta<\/b>,\u00a0Teen Mortgage<\/strong>,\u00a0Ok Go<\/strong>,\u00a0Cytotoxin<\/strong>,\u00a0Speedway<\/strong>, and Offended By Everything<\/strong>. Whereas Bloodguilt<\/strong> and\u00a0Ghosts of Hope<\/strong> dropped releases earlier in the week.<\/p>\n
