Taken from their upcoming\u00a0<em>&#8216;At Peace&#8217;<\/em> record, it sees the quartet provide plenty of\u00a0sardonic wit and a razor-sharp critique against a sturdy punk rock backdrop. And if that&#8217;s not enough, its video is full of cute cats.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Described as a <em>&#8220;tribute to societal identity with a twist,<\/em>&#8221;\u00a0<em>&#8216;Cat Guy&#8217;<\/em> exemplifies <strong>Propagandhi&#8217;<\/strong>s lyrically powerful and poetic approach found through\u00a0<em>&#8216;At Peace&#8217;<\/em>. Commenting on their latest single, frontman Chris Hannah jokes,\u00a0<em>\u201cFrom my songwriting perspective, the two things I was thinking of was capturing a little bit of Judas Priest\u2019s Firepower LP as if SNFU\u2019s Chi-Pig was writing the lyrics.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a time of uncertainty, <strong>Propagandhi<\/strong>&#8216;s politically-charged brand of punk continues to be thought-provoking and vital. With the band&#8217;s home country being threatened of becoming the U.S.\u2019s 51st State, their social activism and outspoken voice are combined with present-day anxieties. With its big guitars, rumbling rhythm section, and Nikki Brumen&#8217;s distinct, piercing vocals, it sees the quartet make a fiery comeback.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>&#8216;All I Ever Hate About Is You&#8217; <\/em>is a bitter anthem of heartbreak and defiance as Brumen is fed up with a former love&#8217;s bullsh*t. With its low-tuned riffs, visceral screams, and towering chorus, it sees the quartet showcase their dynamic range.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although\u00a0<strong>Royal Sorrow<\/strong> formed in 2022, its members have been playing together in other projects since they were young. Collectively, it has allowed them to develop a sound that richly leans into metal as much as it does pop. Along the way, it has seen them explore a full spectrum of emotions, with\u00a0<em>&#8216;Give In&#8217;<\/em> considerably their darkest offering to date.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201c\u2018Give In\u2019 portrays anxiety, embodied as dark beings that invade one\u2019s space when at their most vulnerable,&#8221;\u00a0<\/em><strong>Royal Sorrow<\/strong> explain. <em>&#8220;The song puts into words the feeling of helplessness, when, in our darkest moments, the only option seems to be to surrender.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With influences including VOLA, Sleep Token, Spiritbox, and upcoming touring buddies, Leprous,\u00a0<strong>Royal Sorrow\u00a0<\/strong>continue to progress towards their inevitable debut album in the not-too-distant future. Her latest single,\u00a0<em>&#8216;Cardinal Sin&#8217;<\/em>, crushes with a nu-metal stomp and cathartic melodies. Capturing the feeling of constantly beaten and broken down by your own mind, the enigmatic electronic-metal artist produces a temperamental rager with a soothing hook countering brooding rap verses.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Having left her mark on various dance and electronic collaborations,\u00a0<strong>REEBZ<\/strong>&#8216;s solo work sees her honing in on a raw, unfiltered sound that takes inspiration from industrial, electronic, drum &amp; bass, dubstep and trap, as well as metal. It&#8217;s momentum he is carrying forward with his new single, <em>&#8216;Chamomile&#8217;<\/em>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It captures Weinman at his most upbeat and earnest with a sweeping chorus. However, it maintains his humble indie-folk sound and balances it with welcomed immediacy. Its punchy drums, vibrant guitars and swirling melodies allow <strong>Runnner<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>to leave a stirring and strong impression.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>&#8220;I wrote this song back in 2017. It\u2019s kind of about depending on small, insignificant things to make big, important changes in my life, and how silly that is,&#8221;<\/em> explains Weinman.<em> &#8220;There\u2019s a lyric in the second verse about re-recording a thousand times that became a kind of prophecy in that I\u2019ve made dozens of versions of the song before this one. If you&#8217;re familiar with\u00a0<strong>Brightr<\/strong>, then you&#8217;ll know Cottingham has a knack for hooking you with raw warmth and melodic charm.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As you can probably guess,\u00a0<em>&#8216;Year Two&#8217;<\/em> is the follow-up to <em>&#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\/album-review-brightr-year-one\/\">Year One&#8217;<\/a>,<\/em> which was released nine years ago. Since then, Cottingham has released several split EPs. Along with a pandemic and fatherhood being a focus,\u00a0<em>&#8216;Year Two&#8217;<\/em>s delay goes emotionally deeper.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cI\u2019ve been writing Year Two pretty much since I completed Year One, but it\u2019s been a lengthy work in progress. I think it ultimately took a while to finish some of these songs and bring others to the surface because I\u2019d buried the feelings and memories so far down, or maybe even morphed the true narrative of them to feel better than they were, to somehow protect myself,&#8221;<\/em> explains Laurie. <em>&#8220;Whatever the reason, &#8216;Year Two&#8217; is finally here. It\u2019s painful, it\u2019s poppy, deeply honest and brutally vulnerable. Women are taught that we have to behave in a certain way, present ourselves in a certain way and deny ourselves certain things in order to stay safe or be treated with respect. The narrative needs to change around these situations.
