Although Coachella, The Great Escape, along with a few others have already taken place, festival season kicks off this weekend with the Slam Dunk Festival<\/b><\/a>. If you’re like me, you’ve been hoping for good weather. However, if you’re not heading to either the North or South events, you can listen to some of this week’s\u00a0#NewMusicFriday<\/strong> releases.<\/p>\n

Today sees the likes of emo rockers Charmer<\/strong> and genre-smashing duo\u00a0House of Protection<\/strong> share new music. I shared my thoughts on both of these below. In addition,\u00a0Skunk Anansie<\/strong> return with\u00a0‘The Painful Truth.’\u00a0<\/em>The Britrock group’s first album in nine years sees them incorporate electronic elements, with flashes of post-punk and ska.<\/p>\n

Further afield, there is the debut album from Senna<\/strong>. They are the latest in a factory line of German-based metalcore bands. However,\u00a0‘Stranger To Love’<\/em> utilises pleasing grooves, technical instrumentation, and emotional depth to leave a strong impression.Danish experimental punk four-piece Pleaser\u00a0<\/strong> deliver their second album,\u00a0 ‘Begging Guitars’<\/em>. It serves up a mix of lyrically earnest songs, pairing it with a raucous energy and the occasional metallic riff. Meanwhile, French post-metallers\u00a0Year of No Light<\/strong> release a unique live album.\u00a0‘Les Ma\u00eetres Fous’<\/em> was recorded a decade ago as a response to\u00a0French filmmaker Jean Rouch\u2019s controversial 1950\u2019s docufiction of the same name<\/a>. The two “track’ release sees the instrumental sextet complement the documentary’s sensitive subject with an intense performance.<\/p>\n

There’s also music from Korean Cars<\/strong> from Follo, Norway. Mini-album, ‘#1’<\/em> provides a stirring brand of post-rock, drawing inspiration from alternative and post-hardcore scenes of the ’90s and 2000s. You can find new releases from the likes of\u00a0MSPAINT<\/strong>, Hinder<\/strong>, Sports Team<\/strong>,\u00a0H\u00e4xan<\/strong>,\u00a0Poison The Preacher<\/strong>, and more today.<\/p>\n
