Last month, rising Glaswegian group Humour\u00a0<\/strong>shared details of their debut album,\u00a0\u2018Learning<\/em> Greek\u2019.<\/a> Although the album isn’t due to be released until August 8th (via So Young Records<\/strong>), that hasn’t stopped the post-punk\/hardcore outfit from releasing another track from the album.<\/p>\n

‘Memorial<\/em>‘ sees vocalist Andreas Christoloudis\u00a0on the shores of Troy, drawing from poet Alice Oswald\u2019s reimagining of Homer\u2019s Iliad<\/em> to confront the heavy inevitability of death. \u201cOswald describes the Iliad as a catalogue of death,\u201d<\/em> he explains. \u201cIt\u2019s a step by step description of all these people being slaughtered, but it\u2019s described in an incredibly beautiful way. ‘Memorial’ describes a scene from the Iliad in which Andromache must say goodbye to her husband Hector the night before he\u2019s killed in battle. The main theme of the song is imminent disaster and trying to remain stoic in the face of it.”<\/em><\/p>\n

With its blend of buzzsaw and jangly guitars, and punchy rhythm section,\u00a0‘Memorial’<\/em> leans into the band’s angular post-punk sound. However, it retains the hardcore edge heard on \u2018Neighbours\u2019<\/em><\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n
