Gloomy emo pop troubadour Brightr\u00a0<\/strong>is scheduled to release his new album,\u00a0‘Year Two’,\u00a0<\/em>this summer. Today, he has shared his second single from it, ‘Never Home, Never Mind’<\/em>.<\/p>\n

It sees\u00a0Brightr,<\/strong> AKA Laurie Cottingham, show a more delicate and vulnerable side. With acoustic Midwestern emo flourishes, it allows Cottingham to deliver a raw and unfiltered track.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe title comes from a line in the chorus, not something I often do, but it resonated, so I did it,”<\/em> explains Cottingham before discussing the track’s lyrical theme. “It is a song about mistakes, about inflicting sadness on someone you love above everyone else, about messing up, but about trying every day to do better and make things feel better for that person.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

The album’s first single,\u00a0\u2018Charles Petrescu\u2019<\/em>, was released last month and was chosen as one of our ‘Songs of the Week’<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u2018Year Two\u2019<\/em> is set to be released through Sugar-Free<\/strong> Records<\/strong>, and sees\u00a0Brightr<\/strong> follow up 2016’s\u00a0‘Year One’<\/em> record. When announcing the record, Cottingham said, “It\u2019s painful, it\u2019s poppy, deeply honest and brutally vulnerable. It\u2019s joyfully crushing but it\u2019s me.”<\/em><\/p>\n
