Brighton-based “gritpop” duo\u00a0snake eyes<\/strong> are set to head out on a UK tour this week. To coincide with it, they’ve shared their latest single, ‘hdtv’.<\/em> The track proves to be a hazy, grunge-like number that sees frontman Jim Heffy reflect on the multiple jobs he’s worked as a musician, while addressing the societal stigma surrounding minimum-wage \u201cunskilled\u201d work.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m finding that, while I have a lot to be thankful for, times are tough and I\u2019ve been feeling the pinch lately,”<\/em> explains Heffy. “Minimum wage seems the norm these days, whilst the cost of living continues to rise. this song was born out of feeling trapped in crap jobs and serves as a reminder to find comfort in the little things. If you\u2019re reading this, you are so much more than your day job. Don\u2019t let the bastards get you down.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Joined by drummer Thomas Coe-Brooker,\u00a0‘hdtv’<\/em> is underpinned by subtle musical depth.\u00a0\u201cin the words of Tom Hill, who mixed the track, musically we really \u2018threw the kitchen sink\u2019 at this one,”\u00a0snake eyes<\/strong>‘ Jim Heffy shares. “we got trumpets in there, vinyl scratching (which brooker taught himself to do after we decided the end of the song was gagging for it) and a healthy amount of cowbell for good measure. we hope this summer bop makes you feel better.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

It is the third track\u00a0Snake Eyes<\/strong> has released this year, following ‘Hug Me’<\/em><\/a> and\u00a0‘jar full of wasps’<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n
