As always, Donington would be home to some of rock, metal, punk, and alternative music&#8217;s biggest and brightest names. However, her energetic style is the ideal antidote to kickstart the first day of Download. With a dedicated gaggle of fans chanting for her in between songs, it&#8217;s clear <strong>Di\u00f3<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>has momentum behind her.\u00a0 Tracks such as\u00a0<em>&#8216;Stupid&#8217;<\/em> and\u00a0<em>&#8216;Sick Ride&#8217;<\/em> are melodically sharp and delivered with charisma.\u00a0 Over on the Opus (second) stage, Irish quartet\u00a0<strong>The Scratch<\/strong> bring a percussive Celtic drive, mixed with a thrashy punk stomp that doesn&#8217;t outstay its welcome.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_99393\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-99393\" style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-99393\" src=\"https:\/\/alreadyheard.com\/staging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Unpeople-DOWNLOAD_2025_Matt-Higgs-800x532.webp\" alt=\"Unpeople at Download Festival 2025. The Avalanche tent is packed for the quartet, who have quickly shown a knack for producing big, addictive hooks. Nonemoreso than on the closing number, <em>&#8216;The Garden&#8217;<\/em>. No matter what else I heard over the next two days, the refrain of\u00a0<em>&#8220;Da, da da da, da da&#8221;<\/em> remained firmly lodged in my consciousness. Nevertheless, it&#8217;s another promising showing for\u00a0<strong>Unpeople<\/strong>, who continue to pull in crowds. Hopefully, new material is on the horizon soon.<\/p>\n<p>A walk over to the Apex (main) stage sees\u00a0<strong>CKY\u00a0<\/strong>bring some nostalgic 2000s alt-metal to the day. The trio deliver an acceptable, if unremarkable set that expectedly ends with\u00a0<em>&#8217;96 Quite Bitter Beings&#8217;<\/em>.\u00a0<strong>Boston Manor<\/strong> fair better, appearing unfazed by the sheer number of people watching them. Returning to Donington for the first time in 12 years,\u00a0<strong>Jimmy Eat World<\/strong> fulfilled expectations with a career-spanning set that didn&#8217;t disappoint. Classic singles such as\u00a0<em>&#8216;Sweetness,&#8217;<\/em> <em>&#8216;Pain,&#8217;<\/em> and\u00a0<em>&#8216;Big Casino&#8217;<\/em> are slotted in between fan favourites\u00a0<em>&#8216;A Praise Chorus&#8217;<\/em> and\u00a0<em>&#8216;Let It Happen&#8217;<\/em>. Frontman Jim Adkins is timeless, in looks and energy, with him and his bandmates serving up anthem after anthem of emo rock greatness.<\/p>\n<p>Somehow, <strong>Weezer<\/strong> have the hefty task of following them, and starts off strong with <em>&#8216;Hash Pipe&#8217;<\/em> and\u00a0<em>&#8216;My Name is Jonas&#8217;<\/em>. And while a bulk of their set is dominated by classic Weezer cuts (<em>&#8216;Holiday,&#8217;<\/em>\u00a0<em>&#8216;Pork and Beans,&#8217;<\/em> and\u00a0<em>&#8216;Surf Wax America<\/em><span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\"><em>&#8216;<\/em>),<\/span>\u00a0there are moments where they go a bit too deep for the festival crowd. Considerably a band that should&#8217;ve headlined Donington way before now, the trio&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Download<\/strong> bow is organic, bringing their stadium show to the legendary site with ease. Sure, Billie Joe Armstrong&#8217;s clich\u00e9 <em>&#8220;Heeeeeey oooooh&#8221;<\/em>s are overused, and\u00a0<em>&#8216;Holiday&#8217;<\/em> and\u00a0<em>&#8216;Hitchin&#8217; a Ride&#8217;<\/em> are drawn out, but it&#8217;s all part and parcel of a\u00a0<strong>Green Day\u00a0<\/strong>show. As is Armstrong&#8217;s anti-Donald Trump speech, leading the crowd to chant <em>\u201cyou fat bastard\u201d<\/em>.\u00a0 The political undertones are expected and welcomed, making\u00a0<em>&#8216;American Idiot&#8217;<\/em> era material become timeless.
