Just weeks removed from returning with their first piece of new music in five years<\/a>, Liverpudlian math-rockers Alpha Male Tea Party<\/strong> have announced a new album and tour.\u00a0 The record is called\u00a0‘Reptilian Brain’<\/em> and will be released through\u00a0Big Scary Monsters<\/strong> on October 3rd.<\/p>\n

Known for their heavy riffs, polyrhythmic grooves, and melodic complexity, ‘Reptilian Brain’\u00a0<\/em>sees\u00a0Alpha Male Tea Party\u00a0<\/strong>add lyrics to their arsenal. With assistance from producer Mark Roberts (Black Peaks, Delta Sleep, Vower), the album’s 10 tracks provide direct emotional depth. It sees the trio explore themes of grief, anger, and existential dread with surprising vulnerability.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt started to become clear that we wanted to use our voices to speak more directly\u201d<\/em>, says AMTP<\/strong> guitarist and vocalist Tom Peters. \u201cWe found ourselves feeling like we had more to say and communicating that through music alone wasn\u2019t enough anymore.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

On the idea of working with Roberts, Peters explains that the band wanted to “try something new.”\u00a0“I really just wanted to take a step back from the production and hand the reins over to someone else so I could concentrate on being a musician.”<\/em><\/p>\n

The album will feature their new single, ‘A Terrible Day to Have Eyes,’\u00a0<\/em>as well as past single, ‘Battle Crab’<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The new track highlights\u00a0Alpha Male Tea Party<\/strong>‘s newly found melodic strength, blending chugging riffs and a sing-along chorus with the trauma of profound loss.\u00a0\u201cA Terrible Day to Have Eyes is a song about the permanent and inescapable trauma that is inflicted in moments of sudden grief. It comes from a very specific story (that I’ll be keeping to myself) I was once told that had a profound effect on me when I was younger,<\/em>\u201d says Peters. \u201cThe song title came first, as is often the case with us, and it brought that story right back into my mind when I was writing the lyrics. Despite being about something so specific, I like to think it’s applicable to lots of different human experiences, especially in this incredibly fragile and violent landscape we currently find ourselves in. It’s my personal favourite on the record and all comes together with a nice song-a-long at the end, everyone loves one of those,\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n
