The Fulton County medical examiner\u2019s office confirmed Hinds&#8217; passing. He was 51 years old.<\/p>\n<p>Born William Brent Hinds, he would leave his hometown of Alabama to pursue a career in music in Atlanta. Hinds would form\u00a0<strong>Mastodon<\/strong> in 2000 alongside Troy Sanders (bass\/vocals), Bill Kelliher (rhythm guitar\/backing vocals), and Brann Dailor (drums\/vocals).<\/p>\n<p>Before parting ways with the band earlier this year, Hinds contributed to all 8 of\u00a0<strong>Mastodon<\/strong>&#8216;s studio albums. Outside of the group, Hinds was part of various projects,\u00a0<span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">including<strong> Giraffe<\/strong><\/span><strong>\u00a0Tongue Orchestra<\/strong>, which featured members of <strong>Alice in Chains<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Dillinger Escape Plan<\/strong>, and the\u00a0<strong>Mars Volta<\/strong>. He would also work with\u00a0<strong>Tool<\/strong>&#8216;s Danny Carey as part of the psychedelic rock supergroup,\u00a0<strong>Legend of the Seagullmen<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>When the band announced the split from Hinds, they wished their former vocalist and guitarist <em>&#8220;nothing but success and happiness in his future endeavours&#8221;<\/em>. However, Hinds&#8217; comments on social media suggested the split wasn&#8217;t mutual, stating <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guitarworld.com\/artists\/guitarists\/brent-hinds-says-he-was-kicked-out-of-mastodon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>&#8220;the kicked me out of the band for embarrassing them for being who I am.&#8221;<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Hinds&#8217; former bandmates have paid tribute to him, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DNn8zQwJJhh\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sharing on Instagram<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;We are in a state of unfathomable sadness and grief\u2026 last night Brent Hinds passed away as a result of a tragic accident. We are heartbroken, shocked, and still trying to process the loss of this creative force with whom we\u2019ve shared so many triumphs, milestones, and the creation of music that has touched the hearts of so many. Our hearts are with Brent\u2019s family, friends, and fans.
