Mayday Parade – Promises

Mayday Parade continue to celebrate their 20th anniversary with the second installment of their three-part album trilogy with ‘Sad’. Never a band to shy away from their emotions, one of the album’s standout track, ‘Promises’, epitomises how devastingly honest the Florida group can be. With its tender acoustics, impassioned chorus, and stirring structure captures Mayday Parade at their heart-tugging best. Awash with personal distress, ‘Promises’ is a delicate and cathartic offering.

“I was on a ledge and in a terrible situation life threw at me with something I loved. The news was never good or better, and I kept making myself believe it would eventually be,” reflects Mayday Parade drummer/vocalist Jake Bundrick. “I felt alone even though I was sharing those same feelings with my wife. We had to make choices without knowing if they would make the situation better or worse. Sadly, nothing worked. The verses are about the morning it all went south. I haven’t been the same since.”

Orbit Culture

Orbit Culture – Bloodhound

Swedish quartet Orbit Culture are quickly becoming one of metal’s most exciting names. It’s a statement they look to solidify on their new album, ‘Death Above Life’. From it comes ‘Bloodhound’ , which is just as monstrous as its title suggests. Christopher Wallerstedt’s pummelling drum work leads the charge alongside Fredrik Lennartsson’s throbbing bass line, with Richard Hansson and Niklas Karlsson adding some meaty riffs. Aided by technical proficiency and Karlsson’s barrage of f-bombs, ‘Bloodhound’ is a bruising and chaotic number.

“‘Bloodhound’ is about anger – at people, at situations, at an industry that often exploits the very people trying to make it within it,” commented Orbit Culture on the track. “It’s about the cycle of revenge, the moments of acceptance, and then the anger flaring up again because nothing really changes. This song is about reclaiming your voice, your power, your worth. It’s about calling out the bloodsuckers, the manipulators — and making sure they don’t get to take from you anymore.”

‘Death Above Life’ by Orbit Culture is out now on Century Media.

Native James – Pry Away

Following a busy summer that saw him play at Glastonbury and support Letlive. emerging UK artist Native James has returned with a new EP, ‘Confessions of a Sinner’. It sees James pour his blend of metal and grime into cathartic rage. It sees the Ipswich-born artist combine rapid bars with sharp, metallic riffs. Among its highlights is ‘Pry Away’.

Alongside its rapping verses is a soaring hook that elevates the cathartic tone that threads ‘Confessions of a Sinner’ together. The steely percussion and drill-down guitars merely add to ‘Pry Away’s metallic edge. If anything, it stamps Native James‘ place in the UK’s rap-rock scene with confidence while revealing his personal battles. “I wanted to peel the scars off and show wounds with this song,” he shares. “It’s about the internal struggles of mental health, addiction, being comfortable with talking about what is wrong with us, and us going back to the dark place out of habit.”

‘Pry Away’ is just one slice of an EP that sees him explore life’s trials and tribulations. “It (the EP) entices the duality of oneself while taking you down a path of reflection. It’s connected with rage and all the above – a sinner and his thoughts,” says James.

teethin – Broke The Light

Wales-based up-and-comers teethin have been impressing tastemakers with their mix of techno, punk and rock. Their debut EP, ‘Greed Between The Lines’, blends The Prodigy’s electronic chaos with the industrial angst of Burial and socially aware songwriting. EP closer, ‘Broke The Light’, broods with a subtly sinister groove as vocalist James Minas sings about emotional vulnerability in a messy relationship.

The track channels the societal frustration and apathy that is threaded throughout ‘Greed Between The Lines’‘ five tracks. Its ruminative spiral erupts with glitchy electronics and noise.

Pynch – Beautiful Noise

For their second album, ‘Beautiful Noise’, lo-fi indie quartet Pynch have shifted their look inward, exploring deep themes such as love, death, faith and the pursuit of meaning through art. Its title track hints at a fairly straightforward slice of charming indie, yet it spirals with a kaleidoscopic sound of shoegaze and improvised trumpets. Alongside its squalling guitars, it’s a textured delight.

In between the stirring indie rock is Spencer Enock’s words of philosophical doubt, reminding himself to live in the present. That doubt evolves into appreciation for the little things in life. Whether that’s chasing “heartbreakers,” staying up late with friends, wasting weekends, or trying to read on the train.

‘Beautiful Noise’ by Pynch is out now on Chillburn Recordings.

LEAP – Do Or Die

London-based four-piece LEAP have quickly built a strong live reputation with over 40,000 tickets sold across the UK and Europe in just two years. While they’re thriving on the live front, on record, they look to find escapism through vocalist Jacky’s tales of a chaotic London. Debut album, ‘Entropy’, thrives off the quartet’s swaggering indie rock, throwing in the occasional hint of electronic coolness.

Away from the anthemic punch of ‘Waste Your Love’  and ‘I Was Never There’ ‘Do Or Die’ homes in on the band’s persistence, providing one of the album’s more emotional cuts. Its airy guitars float in the verses, building tension towards a cinematic chorus that celebrates the band’s companionship. “I’ll follow you blind, tell me how does it feel? Won’t leave you lonely on the battefield,” sings Jacky in the bridge.

‘Entropy’ by LEAP is out now.

Melrose Avenue – Inside Your Mind

Rising Sydney rockers Melrose Avenue have returned with an aggressive anthem in the form of Inside Your Mind’. Working with producer Matt Malpass (Blink 182, MGK, Magnolia Park), the track sees the Aussie four-piece add a darker tone to their energetic sound, blending sharp hooks with an arena-ready metalcore crunch.

“This song is probably our favourite so far! We turned up to Matt Malpass’s studio in LA at like 9am after a 14 hour flight from Australia and he had this track ready to go,” shares Melrose Avenue vocalist Vlado Saric. “We sat down, wrote the lyrics and knew straight away we had a banger.”

Its release comes ahead of a completely sold-out UK and European tour next month, which includes a date at The Dome in London on November 13th.

The Narrator – Pills From The Start

We’ve known for quite some time that Germany’s metalcore scene is thriving. Among the names from it are The Narrator. After a summer of mainland European festival spots, the quartet have just dropped ‘Pills From The Start’. Bulging with a dense rhythm section, it’s a boisterous slice of groove-laden metalcore. While vocalist Fabian Jochum’s delivery is visceral as he vents his struggles of self-worth. ”’Pills From The Start’ is about finding your own worth even when toxic friendships try to drag you down,” says The Narrator‘s vocalist. “Playing it live on our upcoming tour will be the perfect way to turn that message into a shared experience with our fans.”

‘Pills From The Start’ is The Narrator‘s fourth single of the year, and sees them picking up plenty of momentum ahead of shows supporting Annisokay in the coming months. The tour will be coming to the UK for four shows in the new year.
