Rising UK rockers Leap have released a new track called ‘Messages’. It’s the latest song to be shared from their upcoming debut album, ‘Entropy’. It is also their most personal track, as lead vocalist Jacky (Jack Balfour Scott) pays tribute to his late father, who took his own life four years ago.

“‘Messages’ is the most personal song I’ve ever written. After my dad took his own life in 2021, I was completely broken, and I used to loop old voicemails just to hear his voice, trying to piece together the last things he said like clues. I needed to create something positive out of the despair, and ‘Messages’ is my attempt at that,” explains Leap‘s vocalist. “It’s got an uplifting sense of euphoria to the sonics, which strangely makes me happy when we’re playing it, which is mental, but I guess it kind of works. Or it does for me at least.” Jack also commented on how drummer Hector “Heccy” Cottam lost his cousin to suicide, as well as having a close relationship with Jacky’s father.

To mark the single’s release, Leap have partnered with CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably) to raise money for their services, providing helplines and support for those in need. Their JustGiving fundraiser sees the quartet give away three test pressings of ‘Entropy’. The winners are announced on Monday, September 1st.

The quartet smashed their goal of £500 in three hours, and have achieved more than double that since. “It’s something that feels really close to our hearts as a band. We’ve partnered up with CALM, which is an amazing charity that gives support to people in mental distress,” says Jacky.

The track itself takes an atmospheric indie rock route, complementing ‘Messages’ cathartic lyricism.

Leap is made up of childhood friends Scott and Cottam. Joining them are bassist Declan “BullsEye” Brown and guitarist Adam Mason. Since coming together, their honed in on a sonically wide indie rock sound that thrives with rock n’ roll swagger with scattered electronics.

‘Entropy’ will be self-released on October 3rd. A UK tour will follow it, before they head to mainland Europe.
