Already Heard
As the festival season rolls on, this weekend the Hit The Deck Festival returns for its fourth outing. As always with over 40 bands playing across 6 stages, the Already Heard team has picked out 10 must-see bands to see at this weekend’s festival.
This Saturday the 2014 edition of Record Store Day takes place. With wealth of rare
releases to buy, Already Heard and Jon Tolley of Banquet Records have picked out 5 must by RSD 2014 releases.
Next week Philadelphia indie punks The Menzingers release, 'Rented World,' one of the
highly anticipated records of 2014 so far. In parts, it picks up where 2012's 'On The
Impossible Past' left off but it also shows the bands growth as songwriters and musicians. We recently spoke to Greg Barnett to discuss the album, the pressure of following up 'On The Impossible Past', their forthcoming London show and the Grozerock Festival.
Despite only forming last year, Essex rockers New City Kings have already gathered plenty of attention from their debut EP - 'Change.' Their radio-friendly rock sound that has seen them compared to a range of bands; Foo Fighters, Deaf Havana, and The Gaslight Anthem.
Already Heard spoke to Mark Kovic to find out more about New City Kings.

With their return to the UK imminent, the latest edition of "Versus" sees us putting the
focus on Alkaline Trio. Self-confessed Trio MEGA fan Jay Sullivan tells us why 'From
Here to Infirmary' is the band’s finest work. Whilst Alex Phelan explains how 'Maybe
I'll Catch Fire' is a superb example of musical catharsis.
12 months from releasing their debut EP, we speak to Blackpool pop-punk/emo
quintet Boston Manor to discuss their influences, achievements so far and thoughts on their contemporaries.
With their latest EP 'Change Nothing, Regret Everything.', Woking five-piece Employed
To Serve have produced 12 minutes of frantic, unrelenting hardcore that finds the band somewhere between The Dillinger Escape Plan and The Chariot. We spoke to Justine from the band to find out how the band has transitioned from a duo to a quintet and she discussed
being part of the Holy Roar! roster, they chaotic yet contained live shows and more.
In the latest edition of our "Tour Tales" feature, Irish doom-punk band Hornets talk us
through their recent UK tour where they played 8 shows in 7 days.
Leeds-based four-piece Walleater are set to digitally release their debut self titled EP next Monday (14th April) through Close To Home Records. We've got the exclusive first play
right here on Already Heard.
In the first edition of our new "Industry Insight" feature, we talk to producer Lewis Johns
to find out his beginnings, his recent work with Funeral For A Friend, and Southampton's
Ranch Production House.

Live Review: Groezrock 2013 - Meerhout, Belgium - Sunday (28/04/2013)

As the sun rises and the second day of Groezrock 2013 begins, many make their way with the early morning hangover to the Etnies stage. Being the first band of the day, indie acoustic dance punks The Front Bottoms have a lot to prove to get this crowd into the festival mood for another day. And they prove this wonderfully, with their catchy vibes and witty songwriting. It is clear why this band have caused such a commotion in the punk community; once their fourth full length ‘Talon of the Hawk’ drops in June, this commotion can only go one way upwards. (3.5/5)

No festival in the morning is without the early morning clash, as San Franciscan punks Nothington take to the stage. Whiskey soaked vocals and massive choruses allow the band to be well suited on the Monster stage for a band of their size. Based on the cues of approval from the crowd, Nothington are pulling it off profoundly. It wouldn’t be surprising if the band were to become headliners on future Groezrocks to come as they have the songs for it and the gravitational power to pull many heart strings. (4/5)

When the big hand of the clock face hits 11, many walk briskly to the front of the Impericon stage to witness one of the most underrated bands UK hardcore punk has birthed. Welsh quartet Bastions are as eerie as they are cathartic which allows for a chilling and curious set from the band. Wearing pure honesty on their sleeves, Bastions successfully keep their audience in orbit as they plough through tales of demons, in the body and out. The quality of this set is measured once frontman Jamie Burne leaves the stage, calls the loyal fans to the barrier and composes a unified shout filled rendition of fan favourite ‘Augury’. Overall, a rare accomplished feat for such a small British band. (4/5)

Live Review: Billy Talent, AWOLNATION and Don Broco - Academy 1, Manchester - 06/11/12

Whilst on one hand you could be sat at home after a hard day at work, university or whatever else you do as part of your daily routine, on the other, you’d be considered foolish for not letting your hair down and set foot towards Manchester Academy for a night of shenanigans with three bands.

First up on stage and being greeted to a half filled room are rising Brit rock stars Don Broco who come in leaps and bounds with their fun filled catchy dance punk vibes. For an opening band they work well at engaging with the crowd and manage to orchestrate a wall of death and a command for everyone to climb aboard another person’s shoulders. Whilst such results can be admired, there are moments when the band do come off as an annoying sibling that won’t stop pestering you whilst you’re doing an important errand but over time one can warm to them, only ever so slightly. Live Review: Reading Festival 2012 - Saturday (25/8/2012)

Rumours have been rife all weekend about whether the presence of Green Day and the set they would play today. Would it be a ‘Dookie’ album show? Well, no. However, it is a high-energy collection of greatest hits instead. Even if you are not Green Day’s biggest fan, you can no doubt hum one of their songs and if you could hum it, they played it. From ‘American Idiot’ to ‘Basket Case,’ ‘Longview’ to ‘Holiday,’ it is hit after hit in a sweat-soaked, hour-long performance. Billie Joe Armstrong is the consummate front man; he is swaggering, leading the crowd in epic sing-along moments and saying “Wheeyy-ohhh” more times than Freddie Mercury at Live Aid. This is the kings looking to reclaim their throne and don’t be surprised if they come for the headline slot next year.

Over on the main stage whilst all this is going on, Los Campesinos! look a little lonely. They play the opening of their set to very few fans, with most still being captivated by a certain secret guest. However those who are there are treated to a Los Campesinos! greatest hits set. Not quite the universal punk-rock standards of Green Day, but enjoyable nonetheless. Opening with ‘By Your Hand,’ the first track of fourth album 'Hello Sadness', Los Camp play with passion and sincerity. There are no gimmicks to their live show, just earnestness, as they bluster through fan favourites ‘Death to Los Campesinos!’ and ‘We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed.’ The recognisable ‘You! Me! Dancing’ (well at least to those who are fans of premier league football and a certain American beer) gets the best crowd response of the afternoon and gets the slowly swelling crowd dancing. Closing with ‘Baby, I’ve Got The Death Rattle,’ a euphoric celebration of morose relationships tops off this celebratory tragic performance. Top stuff.
