In recent weeks, math-rockers Alpha Male Tea Party have been previewing their upcoming record, ‘Reptilian Brain’. Today, the Liverpudlian trio have shared its third single, ‘Probably Just Hungry’.
Grounded on a thick groove and an equally chunky riff, it sees AMTP lyrically channel their collective anxiety of growing older as they deal with time not being on their side. “‘Probably Just Hungry’ is a lament about how the grind of the everyday constantly gets in the way of doing things you love,” reflects vocalist/guitarist Tom Peters. “We all know that feeling of frustration that we’re somehow not fulfilling our potential because we have to divert our energy to make ends meet – this song is about that feeling but also about how we complacently shrug it off as being tired or hungry because it’s easier to do that/impossible to take a risk in your life and make the necessary changes that prioritise your happiness. And it’s a total bop!”
‘Reptilian Brain’ will be released through Big Scary Monsters on October 3rd. It’ll be the band’s first album in five years. More importantly, it sees the former instrumental three-piece pivot towards a lyrically-driven, melodic sound. Alongside ‘Probably Just Hungry,’ the album will feature ‘A Terrible Day to Have Eyes’ and ‘Battle Crab’.
