This week’s #NewMusicFriday list is once again a long one. It’s led by new albums from Biffy Clyro, Motion City Soundtrack, and I Prevail. All return with a point to prove. For the Scottish arena rockers, ‘Futique’ gives Biffy a chance to prove their longevity as they release their 10th album. While they might not want to call it a comeback, ‘The Same Old Wasted Wonderful World’ by Motion City Soundtrack is the sound of a band reinvigorated. Meanwhile, Michigan metalcore group, I Prevail, start a new chapter on ‘Violent Nature,’ as Eric Vanlerberghe steps up to the role as the sole frontman.
When it comes to up-and-coming names, Nashville-based pop-rockers Arrows In Action have high aspirations as they deliver ‘I Think I’ve Been Here Before’ in full. Likewise, Peterborough band Lonesome deliver a stunning and cinematic collection of emo/post-hardcore with ‘In the Hope This Finds You’. For fans of blackgaze, ‘All Is Far Away’ from Æl-Fierlen is worth checking out. It’s sprawling four tracks find balance between Stephanie Moffatt’s ethereal harmonies and towering post-metal instrumentation.
Elsewhere, Wicca Phase Springs Eternal pivots towards folk and alt-country on ‘Mossy Oak Shadow’. Canadian metallers Kittie celebrate 25 years of their album, ‘Spit,’ by re-recording four of its standout tracks. There are also new releases from Bad Wolves, Bones Shredder, KennyHoopla, Paradise Lost, Igorrr, SCUSTIN, A Killer’s Confession, and more.
