Newish Music Playlist Update
Every week, our inbox is flooded with new singles from across the alternative scene, and while we’d love to highlight them all, there’s simply too much great music to keep up with. That’s where Already Heard Recommends: Songs of the Week comes in. We sift through the latest releases to bring you a handpicked selection of the standout tracks you need to hear.
Whether it’s rock, punk, emo, hardcore, metal, or something in between, we cut through the noise and bring you the songs that deserve your attention.

Creeper – Prey For The Night
Creeper continue to build the world of their upcoming album, ‘Sanguivore II: Mistress Of Death’, with ‘Prey For The Night’. With darkwave synths creeping alongside William von Ghould’s sinister baritone, the quintet paint a devilish picture. It radiates with a characteristically larger-than-life sound, leaning into ’80s hard rock. Throw in a blast of saxophone, and you’re left with a sultry and theatrical preview of ‘Sanguivore II’.
‘Sanguivore II: Mistress Of Death’ by Creeper is released on October 31st through Spinefarm.

VOWER – Stuck
Emerging post-hardcore heroes Vower continue to thrive as they vent their frustration with being stagnant on ‘Stuck’. It’s the latest track to be shared from their newly announced EP, ‘A Storm Lined With Silver’.
Serving as an anthemic and cathartic statement, ‘Stuck’ captures Vower‘s urgency and intricate musicianship to a tee. Josh McKeown’s impressive vocals lead the charge as his bandmates deliver a bombastic sound that comes off as controlled chaos.
‘Stuck’ is the fourth track to be heard from ‘A Storm Lined With Silver,’ following ‘Deadweight,’ ‘Moth Becomes the Flame,’ and ‘Satellites.’ As a productive unit, Vower are far from stuck. Yet, it’s a feeling McKeown reflects on, sharing, “The feeling of stagnation is a powerful one. In a moment, it can push contempt for oneself to its absolute limit, and in the next, it becomes the catalyst to drastic and positive change. ‘Stuck’ is an acknowledgement of stagnation in its different forms.”
‘A Storm Lined With Silver’ by Vower is released on November 14th.

False Advertising – The Sorry Window
Manchester alt-rock outfit False Advertising has reemerged with a new track called ‘The Sorry Window’. It sees the duo of Jen Hingley and Josh Sellers add an indie-pop touch to their assured grunge-infused alt-rock sound. It results in having a solid rhymic foundation that is complemented by a rising melody and rose-tinted piano keys.
However, despite its sunny disposition, lyrically, ‘The Sorry Window’ is bittersweet and tinged with regret. It’s a fitting notion to have as the nights draw in and another summer ends.
Furthermore, the track is taken from what False Advertising describe as “a larger body of work”. Watch this space.

Profiler – Luciferian
If you hadn’t noticed, nu-metal is undergoing somewhat of a renaissance, with legends like Korn and Limp Bizkit not only headlining festivals but also clearly influencing the next wave of bands. Amongst them is Profiler. Their latest cut, ‘Luciferian,’ firmly lives in nu-metal territory. thanks to its record scratches, grungy guitars, and rap-sung vocals
“‘Luciferian’ is the sister song lyrically to ‘Dope’. It discusses the themes of negative energy felt within another person and listening to your intuition when you are in the wrong relationship,” Profiler state, who have announced a new EP.
‘Masquerading Self ‘ is the band’s first self-released EP, and will feature both ‘Luciferian’ and ‘Dope’. “We believe it’s our strongest body of sound and we’re really proud of the work that’s gone into it and the result we’ve managed to achieve,” say the band.
‘Masquerading Self’ by Profiler is released on December 4th.

Glimmer – Been Down
As they prepare to release their debut album, ‘Get Weak,’ next Friday (October 3rd), NY grungegaze quartet Glimmer have given us one final preview. ‘Been Down’ rides on thick, fuzzed-out guitars and driving percussion, allowing the band to blend their assured mix of grunge and shoegaze. With its urgency and hazy vocals, it provides a solid example of what Glimmer are all about.
‘Get Weak’ sees them working with producer Jeff Berner. While Will Yip (Turnstile, Superheaven) mastered the record. Its 10 tracks are a mix of sharp, grunge-laden alt-alt rock anthems and softer, dreamier tracks. Songs such as ‘Sorrow Again’ and ‘Slow Saturday’ have a vintage ’90s quality to them. In contrast, ‘Bloom’ swells with laid-back guitars and breezy vocals.
‘Get Weak’ by Glimmer is released on October 3rd through Abandon Everything Records.

HUNNY – Tired of U
Los Angeles indie-pop band HUNNY is all about embracing the weird, as their new album ‘SPIRIT!’ showcases. Longtime frontman Jason Yarger is now the sole member, allowing its 15 songs to have that extra personal touch. One of its standout tracks is the catchy ‘Tired of U’.
It captures Yarger’s musically playful side while lyrically lamenting his inability to smoke weed or consistently sleep. With its syncopated drums and saccharine synths, it’s a springy earworm that begs to be played repeatedly. “I had a demo of this one that was like 20 seconds long, and Kevin [Grimmet] (former Hunny bassist) said I should make it a song. I was like, “Really? You like that one?” It’s about me not being able to smoke weed. It’s so unfortunate,” Jason shares. “I’m telling my brain, “I wish you would let me sleep just like a normal person.” I wish I could have a little pen next to my bed like everybody and just take a little puff and snooze. I have very bad insomnia; I have since I was a little kid. When I was like seven, I was getting out of bed at night and going into our front room and watching, like, Three’s Company and shit in the middle of the night. I’d go into the kitchen and make myself a root beer float and watch TV until four in the morning.”
‘SPIRIT!’ jumps around power-pop, hooky post-punk, gleaming synths, and swaggering indie rock (such as ‘i can see my house from here’) with a lyrically observant eye. Overall, a buoyant and digestible collection.
‘SPIRIT’ by Hunny is out now on Epitaph Records.

Ventenner – Solvent
Suffolk-based outfit Ventenner are set to return late next month with the release of an EP called ‘Slow Dissolve’. ‘Solvent’ is the second single to be shared from it.
Having built a reputation of blending metal with atmospheric electronics, ‘Solvent’ anchors down with dark ambience and doomy riffs. It’s a sharp, cold, and steely offering that serves as a reintroduction for Ventenner. After moving away from the hustle and bustle of life in London, Charlie Dawe relocated to rural Suffolk and, in short, got his shit together. Sparked by reinvigorated purpose, he began writing new Ventenner material.
Although Dawe is now the only member, ‘Solvent’ highlights his indistinctive approach. Dawe calls the track “creatively very exposed.” He expands by saying, “It’s a very direct approach to making a feeling into a song. It’s full of contrasts and honesty, musically and lyrically. And that comes from not putting it through any kind of filter or second-guessing the process. It feels very primal.”
‘Slow Dissolve’ by Ventenner is released on 31st October through Athanor Records.

Pinknoise – Flesh and Bone
Pinknoise, aka Kacey Foxx, serves up a soaring slice of hard rock and metalcore with ‘Flesh and Bone’. Joined by Nothing More‘s Ben Anderson on drums, the track’s jagged riffs and industrial undertones are complemented by a versatile vocal performance that veers between guttural intensity and fragile vulnerability. While Anderson’s drums add an explosive element, making ‘Flesh and Bone’ sound huge!
As its title suggests, it sees Foxx with a fragile mindset. “‘Flesh and Bone’ is the sound of being ripped open and left vulnerable,” Foxx explains. “It’s eerie, heavy, and uncomfortable on purpose. It’s about what it feels like to be judged as not enough, no matter how much of yourself you give. The song is raw honesty wrapped in distortion, where the worms under the skin are the thoughts that never stop gnawing at you. It’s my most vulnerable self put into my music thus far, and allows people to view a side of me that they have yet to see. Intense, undisguised and sincere.”
It follows last month’s ‘Human=Kind’ EP that saw Pinknoise showcase soul-baring R&B vocals and razor-sharp pop hooks among metalcore ferocity, and djent precision.

Luxury Apartments – Troubling Time
Venn Records‘ latest signees, Luxury Apartments, are punk through and through with their new ‘Troubling Time’, capturing the current fragile state of the world. It’s a chaotic blast of punk rock as the quartet shows resistance and endurance through the swirling repetition of “Got to get through”. In short, they transform rage and helplessness into art that optimistically builds solidarity and consciousness.
“We live in a time where we can live stream nightmares and watch them unfold whilst not being able to do anything about it but comment, like and share.. We live in a time where protesting in the street is completely futile,” reflects vocalist Matt Turner. “We live in a time where the narrative can be twisted and distorted at will to suit whoever holds the keys. Every time you open up your phone, mass collective abysmal voyeurism where everyone is watching the world burn… it affects our lives daily. It’s enough to drive you round the bend if you let it. It did to me!
Troubling Time’ is the first track to be released from the band’s forthcoming ‘Weak Spells’ EP. Although no release date has been set, it’s described as “a powerful 20 minutes of raw, crucial UK punk”.
