Another packed #NewMusicFriday sees nearly 70 releases spanning rock, emo, metalcore, hardcore, metal, and beyond.
Among today’s releases is the impressive second album from “post-emo” outfit Ben Quad. You can read more about ‘Wisher’ here. While a pair of emo “godfathers” deliver new releases. First, The Get Up Kids‘ Matt Pryor returns with a vulnerable solo record in ‘The Salton Sea’. It sees him candidly document his realisation of addiction and the recovery. Meanwhile, Jimmy Eat World‘s ‘Something(s) Loud’ compiles their sporadic single releases since 2019’s ‘Surviving‘ album onto vinyl.
Two of metalcore’s established heavyweights, Of Mice & Men and The Devil Wears Prada, deliver new albums with ‘Another Miracle’ and ‘Flowers’ respectively. Meanwhile, up-and-coming Germans Avralize fuse metacore hooks, electronic textures, and tech metal on their debut album, ‘Liminal’. Fellow Europeans, Parisian crossover mob Rise of the Northstar, mash together metal, hardcore, rap and hip-hop with ‘Chapter 04: Red Falcon Super Battle! Neo Paris War!!’
When it comes to homegrown UK releases, there are a handful of notable releases. Vower‘s second EP, ‘A Storm Lined With Silver’ picks up where last year’s debut outing left off (review here). Hotly tipped hardcore outfit False Reality look set to continue to ride a wave of momentum with debut album, ‘Faded Intentions’. There is also new music from The Hunna, The Hyena Kill, and versatile alt-metal newcomers, PREYRS. A special mention has to be given to Small Pond Records’ ‘Emerging Vol. V’ compilation. It sees the Brighton-based label highlight young bands and artists from the surrounding errors with a versatile mix of sounds and styles.
Elsewhere, you can find:
- Green Day celebrates 25 years of the often under-appreciated ‘Warning’
- Mike Patton (Faith No More and Mr. Bungle) collaborates with folk duo The Avett Brothers on the self-titled AVTT/PTTN
- Canada’s Home Front provide a rousing, neon-lit collection of post-punk on ‘Watch It Die’.
- Emerging San Francisco duo chokecherry and their debut album, ‘Ripe Fruit Rots and Fall’ , admirably stir up an introspective and layered set of lush soundscapes.
- There are also new releases from 5 Seconds of Summer, The Neighbourhood, Blackberry Smoke, Ghold, and much more.
