Coventry newcomers Blush Puppy have joined Venn Records (Last Hounds, Lemondaze, Luxury Apartments). The quartet have marked the news by sharing the first single from their upcoming debut EP. The track is called ‘Under The Water’ and is taken from ‘Here You Dream,’ which will be released on March 27th.
Produced by Adrian Bushby (Foo Fighters, Muse,) ‘Under The Water’ proves to be a swirling alt-rock delight, charged with three-part harmonies and a catchy as hell chorus. “‘Under The Water’ represents the feeling of drowning, but also the euphoria that giving in and letting go can bring,” Blush Puppy shares. “(It’s about letting go of the monsters we create in our own heads, by admitting they’re there. Sometimes we can hide things from others out of fear of them becoming real, but by inviting others into your head and sharing these feelings, you can begin to battle them together. Finally admit you’re drowning, and accept help.”
Its video complements the escapist narrative, with a nod to The Mad Hatters tea party in Alice in Wonderland. While the track itself is considered a turning point by vocalist and guitarist Ciaran O’Sullivan. “This song is a special one for me because it’s the only song on the EP that was born with everyone in the room,” he explains. “The idea came to life together, and the whole track feels like a true blend of all our voices, influences, and personal experiences. It offers a glimpse into the world inside each of our heads – a submerged, dreamlike space that’s deeply connected to the universe of ‘Here You Dream.’”
‘Here You Dream’ promises to offer a collision of emo, pop, grunge, alternative and metal, utilising the band’s cathartic songwriting, weaving in influences such as Bring Me The Horizon, Boston Manor, Turnstile, Deftones and Enter Shikari
