As Everything Unfolds – Did You Ask To Be Set Free?
Love Rarely – Pain Travels
UPDATE: Since writing this introduction, Enter Shikari has surprisingly released a new album called ‘Lose Your Self’.
After a somewhat lacklustre #NewMusicFriday last week, this week’s round is packed with a whole load of noteworthy releases. For starters, Bilmuri is back cranking his hard with ‘Kinda Hard’. As Everything Unfolds embarks on a new chapter on ‘Did You Ask To Be Set Free?’ and ‘Pain Travels’ by Love Rarely sees the rising math-rockers live up to their potential.
Meanwhile, Sugar Horse follow up their impressive 2024 album, ‘The Grand Scheme of Things,’ with ‘Not A Sound In Heaven’. Their third full-length leans into their experimental side, making the record fittingly jarring in places. Moments such as the 10-minute ‘History’s Biggest T Shirts’ highlight the quartet’s blend of melody and hypnotic experimentation. In short, Sugar Horse are as immersive as ever.
When it comes to underground homegrown talent, there’s more than Love Rarely that you should be taking notice of this week. First of all, Blush Puppy‘s ‘Here You Dream’ delivers an impressive blend of three-way harmonies among a mix of emo, pop, grunge, alternative and metal. Whereas, Our Nameless Boy give their new ‘Thorns’ EP an early Bandcamp release. The four-track offering sees the Bristol-based outfit demonstrate their striking quiet/loud dynamic with a stirring, emotive core.
There are also releases from more familiar names. Breakout metallers Bring Me The Horizon release the audio companion to their recent ‘L.I.V.E. IN SÃO PAULO’ cinematic concert film. Fans of pop-rock are sure to welcome new albums from The Maine and Broadside. Meanwhile, ‘Savage Imperial Death March’ sees Melvins and Napalm Death come together for a collaborative effort. There are also new releases from New York punk rockers I Am The Avalanche, and instrumental prog outfit Long Distance Calling.
If that isn’t enough, Lord of the Lost complete their ‘OPVS NOIR’ trilogy, Palette Knife serve up some succulent Midwest emo with their ‘Keyframe’ EP, and Touché Amoré mark 10 years of their outstanding ‘Stage Four’ record with a deluxe edition.
