The Xcerts Announce New Album (‘i think i want to go home now.’)

Earlier this year, The Xcerts returned with ‘do it myself’, and followed it up last month with ‘in your eyes’Today, the Brighton-based trio have confirmed plans to release a new album. ‘i think i want to go home now.’ will arrive on July 10th via FLG Records.

The announcement is joined by a third single, ‘pretty ugly’. The spiky number was heavily inspired UK post-hardcore bands, Kids Near Water and Tribute to Nothing. While vocalist Murray Macleod considers a track as “a nod” to the band’s 2010 album, ‘Scatterbrain,’ he simultaneously takes a swipe at those who have been critical about the band during a difficult personal period.

Commenting on the track, Macleod said, “Lyrically, it’s comically brutal. The vocals are borderline incoherent, but that was intentional. Another emotion I haven’t put in a song for a very long time is anger, and at the time I found myself feeling very angry at the world. So this song takes a swipe at people who were criticising the band during a period when my family was going through a lot.”

“The second verse is about my father and what he was going through after his cancer diagnosis,” Macleod explains. “I reference the machinery that cut out my dad’s tumour, the Da Vinci XI, and also Van Gogh. ‘Maybe I’ll splatter my brains against the wall, then you can all dissect the art, I’ll do one better than Van Gogh and cut ’em both off. The song is heavy in sound and heavy with emotion, so it was important to say something a bit left field because that’s what happens when you’re having an internal meltdown.”

The Xcerts will mark the release of ‘i think i want to go home now.’ by playing the album in full at 2000trees Festival.

A.A. Williams Previews New Album with ‘Poison’

After revealing plans to release her new album, ‘Solstice,’ on June 5th, A.A. Williams has served up another preview in the form of ‘Poison.’ The latest single from the album sees Williams take a heavier, guitar-leaning approach without abandoning her emotional fragility.

Commenting on the track, A.A. Williams said, “‘Poison’ is a song of learning not to fear freedom. Restraints slowly melt away, you push yourself, you long for more. Recklessness begins to consume reason, limitations are forgotten, euphoria and self-sabotage look like one and the same. Desperate to satisfy the craving you torch everything you’ve built. As the old world crumbles, and you rise, unafraid.“

Hammock Tease New Album with Double Single

Last month ambient instrumental specialists Hammock revealed plans to release a new album, ‘The Second Coming Was a Moonrise‘. Ahead of its May 22nd through the band’s own Hammock Music label, they’ve shared two more tracks from record.

The first is the album’s title track which is described as the album’s longest and most commanding piece. The immersive track drifts with layered guitars and choral textures. In contact, ‘Sadness,’ the second track builds with euphoria, executed in a more measured manner. Together, both offerings show why Hammock are one of the most compelling instrumental acts, constantly providing a harmonious escape.

Koyo Drop ‘You Hate Me’ From ‘Barely Here’

With the release of their new album, ‘Barely Here’ (May 9th via Pure Noise) fast approaching, Koyo continue to tease the record with another single. ‘You Hate Me’ sees the Long Island group deliver a hook-laden track with a subtle hardcore rawness.

It’s the third track to be released from ‘Barely Here,’ following ‘What I’m Worth’ and ‘Irreversible’.

Listen to ‘Go On’ from Sans Froid’s Upcoming New Album

Bristol art rockers Sans Froid continue to preview their second album, ‘Back Into the Womb’. Their latest single, ‘Go On,’ highlights the uphill battle non-male performers face and how Aisling Trafford navigates through it all. With its siren guitars, upbeat percussion, and Trafford’s soulful vocals, Sans Froid showcase their quirky, infectious side.

“‘Go On’ is about having to over-exercise and explain the right to be present as a non-male person,” the band explains. “Having it proper wallop your confidence as a human and music person, but just trying to crack on anyway and recognising through conversation that most other non-male people go through similar vibes in their artistic lives…so, kinda community, but also bleughhh”

‘Back into the Womb’ will be released through Church Road Records on June 26th.

New Public Opinion Album Announced

Emerging Denver punk trio Public Opinion will return on August 7th with their second album, ‘The Curse of Public Opinion’. Set for release through SideOneDummy, the 10-track promises to see the band evolve from proto-punks to anthemic rock n’ rollers. This can be heard on the album’s opening track, ‘Balloon Man Running,’ which has been released alongside the album announcement.

Embracing 2000s garage rock with hardcore ferocity and an assured punk hook, ‘Balloon Man Running’ exemplifies Public Opinion‘s defiance.

The Bobby Lees Cover PJ Harvey’s ’50ft’

With their fourth album, ‘New Self,’ set to be released on June 12th via Epitaph, The Bobby Lees have shared a cover of PJ Harvey’s ’50ft Queenie’. Renamed by the New York trio as simply ’50ft,’ it features a thumping bass line, a tight-knit rhythm section, and Sam Quartin’s swaggering vocals.

‘New Self’ comes off the back of The Bobby Lees announcing a hiatus in 2023, citing burnout and economic pressures. However, an outpouring of support led the trio to come back together. One key supporter was actor Jason Momoa. The band are the subject on the premier episode of his new HBO docuseries, ‘On The Roam’. Set to air on May 14th, it sees Momoa set out to help the band record a new album and find a record deal. As you can probably guess, he was successful (sorry for the spoiler).

Tooth Detail Debut EP Release (‘Restless In Bloom’)

Rising London four-piece Tooth have shared details of their debut EP. ‘Restless in Bloom’ will arrive on June 12th through Soil To The Sun Recordings.

It follows two well-received singles, ‘The Age of Innocence’ and ‘Medicine,’ both of which feature on the upcoming five-track release. It’ll also include the title track, which is released today.

Blending angular alt-rock with Midwestern guitars, ‘Restless in Bloom’ sees vocalist Tom Pollock dissect the uncertainty of teenage love. Alongside Ben Ashley (guitar), Charlie Arnison (bass) and Roy Lowe (drums), Tooth integrates scrappy indie rock into their youthful alt-rock, maintaining the critical praise they’ve received so far.

“The name ‘Restless in Bloom’ came from a poetry zine put together by Ben’s girlfriend,” explains Pollock. “She explained the meaning behind the name, saying how our youth was growing into something else, blossoming into something beyond what we knew. We would fill our time fidgeting with the freedom around us, restless in apprehension of whatever’s coming once youth fades. The lyrics reflect this idea, using the backdrop of two people sleeping together, both quickly growing out of each other and realising their existence has more potential beyond the confines of adolescence.”

The release of ‘Restless in Bloom’ will kickstart a busy summer of festival dates, as well as shows supporting Sunny Day Real Estate.
