For this weeks edition of Something For The Weekend, we have Luke Taylor from Britsol rock trio Hello Lazarus. Having released their latest EP, ‘Moving Forward Over The Next Financial Quarter’ last month, the bands sound has been described as “the lovechild of Deftones and Brand New.” In other words, we approve of Hello Lazarus.

When we asked vocalist/guitarist Luke to be a guest writer for Something For The Weekend, he jumped at the opportunity.

Luke’s choices for your recommended weekend listening consist of an underrated Danish trio, a fellow emerging Bristol band and an established Scottish band who are currently writing their third album.

What do you think to Luke’s choices? Let us know on Facebook and Twitter.

Efterklang
For fans of: Foals, Sigur Ros, Pianos Become The Teeth.
Efterklanghave been on the rise since forming in 2000 in Denmark and they just keep getting better. If you haven’t heard them already they are the kind of band that you might recognise anyway due to their music hitting British television as the backing tracks for several adverts.

I was lucky enough to catch them with a full orchestra in London at the end of last year – it was just incredible and the kind of performance you remember for a lifetime. I would describe their music as relaxing but uplifting and compare them in parts to Foals and Sigur Ros but you really have to listen for yourself:

Cautioners
For fans of: Jimmy Eat World, Weezer
This is a band so fresh that they are yet to even play live. Despite that they have been causing somewhat of a stir around our hometown recently through the release of several videos and teaser tracks. Their sound is direct and refined but still clever and full of intricacies. Fantastic flag-bearers for new music emerging in Bristol.

The Xcerts
For fans of: Feeder, Biffy Clyro.
I’d be surprised if most of you haven’t already heard of The Xcerts but in case you haven’t – shame on you. An inspiring 3-piece band from Scotland that have a penchant for both massive but at the same time beautiful tunes and addictive melodies. They are busy writing their 3rd LP, which after supporting them at The Croft in Bristol last year, all 3 of us in Hello Lazarus eagerly await the release of. Brighten your weekend.
