Video Premiere: One Big Fuse – Swimming Pool

One Big Fuse

One Big Fuse

Growing up in the remote part of Scotland on the Isle of Lewis wasn’t ideal for the members of One Big Fuse. Nevertheless, Scott Macleod (bass, vocals), Calum Fraser (guitar), and later drummer David Matheson, would find escape by ripping MP3’s of bands such as Blink-182, Sum 41, Weezer and fellow Scots, Biffy Clyro.

Fast forward to the present day and the trio have honed in on a power-pop sound that is directly influenced by those they spent their teenage years listening to. Having relocated to Glasgow, One Big Fuse‘s latest single, ‘Swimming Pool’, is a three-minute, upbeat slice of fuzz rock that wouldn’t sound out of place on an early Weezer record.

Despite its bright pop-punk leanings, the lyrical nature of ‘Swimming Pool’ isn’t so cheery, as the band tell us; “The song is about dying – most of our songs are actually. We’re a bit obsessed. ‘Swimming Pool’ is about the assumptions we hold about the notion of a peaceful end, and the way those assumptions are probably shattered when we crash through the ‘pearly gates’ in a tumbling wreck.”

Today, we’re premiering the video for ‘Swimming Pool’. It sees Matheson and Fraser take on the role of a crocodile and Superman respectively, as they chill out in a paddling pool, only to be on the receiving end of some unruly child play.

“In ‘Swimming Pool’, our two heroes find out that their aquatic retirement home is not all as it seems,” explains the band. ”Tranquility gives way to terror as the nature of their end becomes all too tangible.”

‘Swimming Pool’ by One Big Fuse is out now on Ragin’ Smith Records.
