When North West group Blanket first emerged in 2017, they delivered an ethereal take on the post-rock genre. Their 2018 debut full-length, ‘How To Let Go’, especially highlighted their compelling cinematic abilities. Since then, the quartet have evolved their sound towards sonically bolder territory, expanding their musical palette in the process.
That leads us to today’s track – ‘Ceremonia’. It’s the title track from their upcoming third album and is a raucous, alt-rock blast that retains Blanket‘s identity. It simultaneously draws from influences such as Cave In, HUM, Swervedriver, and Ride, giving it a 90’s alt/grunge-rock vibe that kicks into overdrive in the later stages.
“We wanted to capture the music we loved as kids like Britpop etc and make it heavier,” explains Blanket vocalist/guitarist Bobby Pook on the making of ‘Ceremonia’. It sets the tone for what to expect from the album of the same name. Pushing their musical boundaries, ‘Ceremonia’ promises to be thoroughly engaging with the band opting to decide one track at a time. “This gave us the ability to really mess with tones and vibes to suit each track instead of having a record which all sounds the same,” says Pook. “The feeling we wanted to capture is an Indie Rock band loud in a room.”
The release of ‘Ceremonia’ on March 22nd via Church Road Records will be complemented by a smattering of UK dates followed by festival appearances going into the summer.
