Acclaimed record producer and engineer, Steve Albini, has passed away at the age of 61. As first reported by Pitchfork, Albini died of a heart attack at his studio, Electronic Audio, in Chicago.
Steve Albini is best known for his work with Nirvana, Pixies, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, PJ Harvey, Mono, Cloud Nothings, and many more.
Away from producing and engineering, Albini performed in several bands including Big Black, Rapeman and Shellac. The latter are scheduled to release a new album, ‘To All Trains’, on May 17th through Touch and Go Records. It will be Shellac‘s first album in ten years. UK dates were also planned to take place next month.
