Bristol emo rockers Our Nameless Boy have released their new single – ‘Mr Right’.
The plucky and energetic sees the quartet lean into a well-executed quiet/loud dynamic. While lyrically, it sees the band explore modern-day interactions, following a conversation with a family member about news items and current affairs.
“For the most part, ‘Mr Right’ digs into how we all entrench our own views all too deeply to ever learn and grow positively,” shares Our Nameless Boy‘s vocalist Iain Gorrie. “The lyric, “You could tell me that it’s not worth my time”, can be “finished” with “… to try to change my mind”, for example. I tried to add a more positive idea as to how we can acknowledge each other’s opinions or feelings during discourse in the middle section of the song, but then ultimately the message falls on deaf ears as the chant and chorus come back in.”
‘Mr Right’ is the second single Our Nameless Boy have released in recent months. In September, they shared a track called ‘Leaving Party’.
‘Mr Right’ Lyrics
Blessed with matters kept close to our fires
Watch them dance as we seek to leave marks
Building bridges won’t come easily if we don’t agree how
I am not who I thought I was, bent to cliches
Tarnished with a stain I can’t abide
Exposed to my own self-doubt
Damaged by the news that
I never knew what I could never see
Do you get what it means
Know what it’s like to be
Alone in the streets
First to the slaughterhouse
Dragged from the scene
How could we know what it’s like?
Mr. Right
Mr. know-it-all
Mr. “I will have the last word
Even if it buries me alive”
There was art on the wall
But soon our eye is drawn
To the writings that it stirred
And we’re forced to pick a side and now
I could tell you to let sleeping dogs lie
And you could tell me that it’s not worth my time
Mr. Right
Mr. know-it-all
Mr. “I will have the last word
Even if it buries me alive”
So be the change
Seek your own take on a good heart
Mark my words
For they are my own
You’re not the aim
You’re not my goal
I don’t expect I’ll be who you want me to be
I don’t expect I’ll be who you want
Mr. Right
Mr. know-it-all
Mr. “I will have the last word
Even if it buries me alive”
Mr. Right
Mr. Right
