Cambridge-based quartet Lemondaze are the latest name to join Venn Records. The news sees the shoegaze/post-rock outfit reemerge with a new single, ‘o(type)’.
With its ethereal presentation, cascading guitars, and haunting vocals, ‘o(type)’ sees Lemondaze return with a poignant and compelling number. At its core, is the emotional yearning for someone you shouldn’t. “It’s an unconventional love song, the relationship is over, but the wanting and the hurt is still present,” the band say. “Loving someone even though you shouldn’t, that you should move on but you can’t.”
‘o(type)’ is the band’s first new music since the release of their ‘Celestial Bodies’ EP in May 2021. “‘o(type)’ is a purer, more honest song, it comes directly from our souls. It’s unashamedly us, about our personal relationships with love. We hadn’t made music like that before. This new music feels like a truer representation of us that captures the energy of our live sound which we have previously struggled to do.”
The track was produced and mixed by Matt Glasbey (Alt-J, Sorry), and is part of a broader body of work.
The announcement comes ahead of Lemondaze‘s set at the ArcTanGent Festival this week. They’ll be appearing on the PX3 Stage on Thursday at 12:10pm.
