This Friday (February 21st), Anxious will be releasing their highly anticipated sophomore album – ‘Bambi’. To give fans one last preview, the Connecticut emo punks have shared its opening track – ‘Never Again’.
With its light introduction, the track quickly ignites showcasing an assured combination of big melodies, penetrating drums, and bold, driving guitars. Lyrically, the track sees Anxious vocalist Grady Allen reflects on the “exhausting social dynamic” that being part of music subcultures can have.
“In our music subculture, there often seems to be this dynamic where people stay close to others regardless of the fact of whether they really like them or not. You hear subtle whispers and rumours about what people really think of you, but those feelings are never expressed to you directly. It’s an exhausting social dynamic and one that I am desperate to let go of,” Grady Allen explains, before discussing the making of ‘Never Said’.
“The ‘Never Said”s lyrics focus on that idea. The song came about super weirdly and indirectly. I went over to Dante’s house last winter and we just started shooting this riff back and forth. We started frankenstein-ing new parts onto it over several months and eventually it just sort of fell into what it was. It was a cool process- we rarely write that way. It was fun to just sort of keep throwing things together and see what happened.”
Alongside ‘Never Said,’ ‘Bambi’ will feature previous singles ‘Some Girls,’ ‘Head & Spine,’ and ‘Counting Sheep’. The album will be released through Run For Cover Records.
Anxious recently announced plans to return to the UK this summer. They’ll be touring the UK and mainland Europe alongside GEL. Their UK visit will start at the 2000Trees Festival before hitting up five co-headline dates. Support comes from Chastity.
