The original Black Sabbath – Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward – have announced they will play together for the first time in 20 years this summer. They will play a one-off hometown show at Birmingham’s Villa Park on Saturday, July 5th.
The show dubbed ‘Back to the Beginning’ will serve as a celebration to the heavy metal legends with a stellar list of support acts. It will see Ozzy Osbourne play his own short set before joining Black Sabbath for his final bow.
“It’s my time to go Back to the Beginning….time for me to give back to the place where I was born,” Ozzy Osbourne said. “How blessed am I to do it with the help of people whom I love. Birmingham is the true home of metal. Birmingham Forever.”
As we said, there’s an impressively good list of support bands with Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Gojira, Alice In Chains, Halestorm, Lamb Of God, Anthrax, and Mastodon also confirmed to play sets.
On top of that, there will be appearances from a host of musicians paying tribute to Ozzy and Black Sabbath.
Billy Corgan (The Smashing Pumpkins), David Draiman (Disturbed), Duff McKagan, Frank Bello (Anthrax), Fred Durst (Limp Bizkit), Jake E Lee, Jonathan Davis (Korn), KK Downing, Lzzy Hale (Halestorm), Mike Bordin (Faith No More), Rudy Sarzo, Sammy Hagar, Scott Ian (Anthrax), Slash, Sleep Token ii (Sleep Token), Papa V Perpetua (Ghost), Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine), Wolfgang Van Halen and Zakk Wylde. There are also more names to be announced.
The show was announced earlier today (Wednesday, 5th February) at Villa Park by Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi and Ozzy Osbourne wife, Sharon Osbourne. All profits from ‘Back to the Beginning’ will be split between Cure Parkinson’s, Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Acorn Children’s Hospice, a Children’s Hospice supported by Aston Villa.
