East London-based quintet IAN will release their debut album next month. The up-and-coming post-metal group have called the album, ‘Come On Everybody, Let’s Do Nothing!’ It will be released on the independent label Human Worth on October 17th.
IAN describe themselves as “a band that appreciates the peaks and troughs of post-rock as much as the crunch of the riff,” and from hearing ‘Come On Everybody…’s first single, ‘Fennel’, it’s a blueprint they stick to. Swallowed by earth-shaking guitars, post-rock atmospherics circle around the track’s biting density.
Commenting on ‘Fennel.’ the band say ‘Fennel’ is a classic tale of trying to have a romantic evening but realising you would both rather be watching Midsomer Murders.”
Alongside ‘Fennel,’ ‘Come On Everybody…’ sees the quintet serve up five tracks of anguished post-metal that sees them compared to Amenra, and Cult of Luna, with the post-rock dynamics of Godspeed You! Black Emperor. As a collective, IAN consists of longtime friends from Exeter’s early ’00s DIY punk scene. However, this new project is the culmination of 25 years of musical comradeship and the need to find inspiration in films, noise, and the drudgery of British life.
Proceeds from Bandcamp purchases will be donated to registered UK charity Mermaids, supporting trans, non-binary and gender-questioning children and young people, and the important people in their lives since 1995.
