Leicester/London outfit Jools are preparing to release their debut album, ‘Violent Delights’, next month. Today, they shared another taste of it in the form of ‘Limerence’.

Considered to be the closest thing the sextet has to writing a love song, ‘Limerence’ jangles with sultry vulnerability before radiantly bursting in its chorus. With the dual vocal work of Kate Price and Mitch Gordon, Jools maintain their versatile brand of punk.

The aforementioned ‘Violent Delights’ sees the six-piece explore relatable themes of grief, rage, identity, and desire. It is the latter of these that is the focus of on ‘Limerence’, as it hones in on the feeling of having an overwhelming obsession.

“It’s about meeting someone and becoming instantly infatuated by them. It tries to capture the giddiness you feel when you have a crush and its all you think about, all you dream about, talk about, and they have you wondering whether your intense feelings are reciprocal or not,” Jools explain. “It’s a song about desire and how sometimes it can border on obsession and desperation, and in the early stages of infatuation, you can become so obsessed you create a fictional version of a person that doesn’t exist anywhere but exactly there, in your head. It’s both euphoric and toxic in equal measure.”

The release of ‘Limerence’ comes as Jools prepare for shows in Norwich and London, before heading to The Great Escape Festival in Brighton later this week. They’re also scheduled to play the 2000 Trees Festival and Burn It Down Festival this summer.
