In January, Cambridge emo quintet Lonesome remerged after four years away with ‘Liar’. Today, they’ve shared its follow-up; ‘Save Your Words’.

Weaving in atmospheric elements, ‘Save Your Words’ is a cathartic and cinematic number that gradually builds to a powerful crescendo. Led by vocalist Jordan Kerr-Gray, the track lyrically touches on themes of betrayal, and emotional exhaustion. “It is a song of self-preservation, where the weight of loss settles in, and the battle shifts from lashing out to simply holding on,” explains vocalist Jordan. “The initial fury gives way to collapse, to guilt, to the aching regret of having cared too much for someone who let you break.”

“It’s a familiar story – one of heartbreak, of learning when to let go of guarding the fragments of yourself that remain. In the end, as the dust settles, there is a quiet reckoning. The betrayer must face the fire of their own choices, while the betrayed stands at the edge, caught between sorrow, defiance, and the acceptance that some wounds will never fully heal.”

As always, Lonesome are visually striking, complementing their raw emotional words, and optimistic soundscapes. Conceptually, both ‘Save Your Words’ and ‘Liar’ hint at a band with a wider story to tell, one that explores the human experience.
