Even though January is seemingly never-ending, there is a smattering of noteworthy releases to soundtrack your #NewMusicFriday.
Besides the albums from Blanket and Greywind, this week sees new full-lengths from Mother Vulture, Kid Kapichi, Soen, Cavetown, DZ Deathrays, and Rifle.
For rising Bristol rockers Mother Vulture, ‘Cartoon Violence’ sees them deliver a collection of boisterous rock. With its ’70s rock pulse, it sees them throw in elements of ’80s glam metal, ’90s alt rock, and noughties indie. In turn, it makes it a whirlwind of a listen that never loses its excitement.
There are also a handful of EPs out this week. Among them is the self-titled offering from I Promised The World. The Texas quintet are going through somewhat of a reintroduction, having previously released an album and EP under the moniker of Sinema. ‘I Promised The World’ offers up five barbed slices of emotional metalcore, which is very reminiscent of the mid 2000s scene. It gives tracks such as ‘A Pure Expression’ and ‘Bliss In 7 Languages’ a steely, nostalgic feel. While the mix of sharp and raw guitars, screamo vocals, and melodic cleans is paired with explosive and gritty production. This is especially shown on the EP’s closing track, ‘Emerald Waltz’.
Meanwhile, New York quartet Local Weatherman release ‘Right One,’ a favourable five-track set of jangly, power-pop-infused indie/emo. Fans of Refused and At The Drive-In should check out Pacifist. Those wanting a mix of hardcore and shoegaze should check out the self-titled EP from Negative Love.
