The first #NewMusicFriday of the month sees a handful of noteworthy releases. Alongside albums from ERRA and snake eyes (covered in detail here and here, respectively), today sees new music from Black Stone Cherry, Alex Melton and The S.E.T.
‘Celebrate’ by Black Stone Cherry sees the Kentucky foursome deliver their usual brand of country-tinged hard rock. As its title suggests, they want to enjoy life’s small victories on this fleeting return. For multi-instrumentalist Alex Melton, ‘The Process’ sees him step away from his emo/pop-punk covers to deliver a collection of original songs. Aided by Alan Day of Four Year Strong, the record allows an introspective Melton deliver a warm debut that comfortably leans into his influences, without sounding formulaic.
If you want unapologetic hardcore straight out of Baltimore, Maryland, then The S.E.T.‘s semi-eponymous debut EP, ‘Self Evident Truth,’ deserves to be listened to. Thriving with intense fury and sharp grooves, its seven tracks come and go in the space of 15 minutes. Lyrically, it’s rooted in hardcore’s confrontational and politically-charged origins.
