Palejoy Share New Single (‘Max Payne Au Chocolat’)

Palejoy

Up-and-coming Aberdeen trio Palejoy have released their latest single, the brilliantly titled ‘Max Payne Au Chocolat’.

Its plucky bass-heavy intro gives way to Palejoy‘s vulnerable exploration with gorgeous guitars. Dale Sutherland’s atmospheric chorus rises above the assured emo-rock the guitarist, along with Kieran Angus and Jamie Reid execute. The song is paired with a narrative wrapped in emotional abuse, capturing a heart-wrenching tale of a strained relationship.

“The protagonist, despite their unwavering care and concern for their partner, is left to deal with the fallout of their partner’s internal struggles, those issues so deeply entrenched that they blind them to the damage their words and actions are causing,” explained the band.

‘Max Payne Au Chocolat’s video and artwork also contains an easter egg for fans of Dallas Green of Alexisonfire and City and Colour. The visual of tulip fields in The Netherlands is a homage to Green’s ‘Little Hell’ (City and Colour) album from 2011. The track also features the line “Drifting off to the voice of Dallas”

Palejoy made their debut late last year with ‘I Bet Heaven Isn’t Real At All’and now ‘Max Payne Au Chocolat’ sees Palejoy add to their range of emo-rock, taking influence from Jimmy Eat World and Microwave. It results in an emotive and harmonious offering.
