Maryland three-piece Pinkshift have confirmed their second album, ‘Earthkeeper’ will be released this summer. Fans can pick up the record on August 29th via Hopeless Records. The announcement is joined by their thrilling new single, ‘Anita Ride’.
Having previously been pigeonholeed as a pop-punk band, ‘Earthkeeper’ promises to see Pinkshift mature and stylistically grow.
‘Anita Ride’ sets the bar high with its big riffs and vocalist Ashrita Kumar’s cathartic delivery. “It’s essentially a release, a reminder, a cathartic moment to give yourself permission to share the weight that you feel in the moments you feel heavy with grief with others and give yourself credit for everything you have done,” states Kumar. “I felt like this song was a moment where we all very obviously, as a band, shed our old skin. This is the first track you hear [guitarist] Paul [Vallejo] and [drummer] Myron [Houngbedji] singing prominently on a track — we are all intentionally united. I found my roar. What made me more powerful in this moment was leaning into losing control, leaning into trusting my community, and leaning into the uncertainty and chaos that are the transitions of life.”
As for ‘Earthkeeper,’ Pinkshift aim to deliver a message of unity, collectivity, community, and action. “I think with this record, I’m trying to inspire you to, give a fuck,” Ashrita concludes. “You’re worth giving a fuck about. I feel like people don’t give a fuck about themselves but in the same way those redwood trees told me I’m welcome here, you matter and you belong here.”
The album will also feature last month’s single, ‘Evil Eye’.
