With their latest single, ‘Animal,’ rising Scottish rock outfit Vukovi embrace their feral side with a vibrant slice of power-pop-rock. Its video is inspired by Wes Borland, as the quartet smear themselves in tribal makeup to coincide with the animalistic theme. As for the track itself, vocalist Janine Shilstone had this to say:

“It’s about karma and the animalistic qualities of it. Once you’re on its wanted list there’s no escaping it. It’s a feisty, energetic and powerful song to us, which I think musically reflects well with the meaning of it.”

As a band who are seemingly always out on the road, we asked Janine to put together an animal-themed playlist for us, just before they head out on tour again next month. You can also catch them at Download too.

From all time rock classics to one hit wonders, take a listen to Vukovi animalistic playlist.

Crazy Town – Butterfly

A late 90’s classic! It’s a one hit wonder but what a tune!

Meat Loaf – Bat Out of Hell

Meat Loaf is like the crazy uncle of rock. I love his over-the-top operatic style. This tune truly sounds like it’s been written for the stage.

Guns N’ Roses – Welcome to the Jungle

I love Guns N’ Roses, and this song in particular is so bad ass. I love Axl Rose’s vocal in this track, his high pitch shouts are killer – "nah nah nah nah knees knees! Ahh ooo!”

Prince – When Doves Cry

Don’t really need a intro to this. He’s an absolute hero and this song is one of his signatures. He also played every instrument on this song when recording it.

Survivor – Eye of the Tiger

We’ve been contemplating covering this tune. Rocky is life.

Beach House – Zebra

I love listening to this band when I can’t sleep. It instantly relaxes me and they have that element of melancholy that everyone loves deep down. I was lucky to see them in Glasgow a few years back, and they didn’t disappoint.

HEALTH – Before Tigers

These guys are a big influence on Hamish (Reilly – guitar)’s playing, and he also has a big HEALTH sticker on one of his guitars.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience – Foxy Lady

Jimi Hendrix broke so many boundaries, and he knew how to make a woman feel sexy through his music.

Radiohead – Wolf at the Door

Thom Yorke really is one of a kind, he doesn’t give a shit about trends or “what’s in”. He does his own thing and people follow.

Snoop Dogg – Doggy Dog World

I grew up listening to Snoop Dogg, he’s one of my favourite rappers. He really is the definition of cool.
