As they prepare to release their new album, ‘Are We All Angels’, in a month, Santa Cruz hardcore band Scowl have treated fans to one final preview of the record. The track is called ‘Tonight (I’m Afraid)’ sees them incorporate melodic alternative rock into their razor-sharp sound, before vocalist Kat Moss breaks down at the halfway point. Its vulnerable nature turns into a tour-de-force of visceral screams and feedback

‘Tonight (I’m Afraid)’ comes with a flip-book animated video by Adult Swim animator Adam Fuchs. The visuals embrace the track’s dark tone, depicting Scowl being attacked by a woodland monster.

The track follows ‘Are We All Angels’ previous singles; ‘B.A.B.E.’‘Not Hell, Not Heaven,’ and ‘Special’. ‘Are We All Angels’ will be released on April 4th via Dead Oceans. It sees the quintet work with producer Will Yip (Turnstile, Title Fight, Movements) once again, and promises to see the Californian outfit expand their sound. Just as ‘Tonight (I’m Afraid)’ shows, Scowl utilise harmonies and a more textured execution. Citing influences ranging from Billie Eilish to Radiohead, and Car Seat Headrest to Julien Baker, ‘Are We All Angels’ looks set to be Scowl‘s most eclectic release to date.

However, they won’t be sacrificing their punk ethos as guitarist Malachi Greene explains; “At our core, we are a punk and a hardcore band, regardless of how the song shifts and changes.”

Scowl will follow it up with a run of UK dates including an appearance at the Slam Dunk Festival in May.
