Manchester Orchestra Detail ‘Union Chapel (London, England)’ Live Album
Last month, Manchester Orchestra shared a live rendition of ‘The Silence’ from their 2023 shows at the Union Chapel in London. They have now announced a full live album release for March 20th.
Simply titled ‘Union Chapel, London, England,’ the album will be available as a 2LP vinyl release in translucent Sea Blue (Retail) or opaque Silver (Artist Store + Tour), as well as in 2xCD format with an 8-page roll-fold booklet.
“The city of London has been a close companion to Manchester Orchestra from the very beginning of the band,” Manchester Orchestra frontman says Andy Hull on the upcoming release. “We spilled out of a tiny van nearly 20 years ago at legendary dives like The Barfly and The Water Rats and with each year, and each show since, the town has become a kind of canon in our lives. A way to compare past with present and past with further past. It was surreal to perform those same songs and so many others across our career over the course of three nights at the historic Union Chapel. It was equally as intense as it was healing and I gratefully believe these recordings faithfully represent the air of that balancing act in the chapel that night.”

Sylosis Previews New Album with ‘Lacerations’
With the release of their new album, ‘The New Flesh’, fast approaching, UK metallers Sylosis have shared its latest single. ‘Lacerations’ demonstrates the quartet’s complex and heavy style, being paired with favourable melodies.
“‘Lacerations’ has become a firm favourite amongst those that have heard the new record. After this song came together during the early stages of writing, I felt a huge sense of relief knowing that we had achieved our best song to date,” shared Sylosis guitatist/vocalist Josh Middleton. “I couldn’t get the chorus out of my head and that’s usually a good sign. Once we had this song under our belts we knew this album would a big step up in terms of our writing abilities.”
“Musically, it calls back to some of the darker melancholic sounds from ‘Edge of the Earth’ or even ‘The Supreme Oppressor’ but with a ton of heavy riffs in there. Lyrically, this song is about facing your own mortality and health anxiety. I think a lot of people can relate to spiralling out of control when they think something’s wrong and how differently you look at your life, and what matters most when confronted with those intrusive thoughts.”
It follows last week’s news that saw Heaven Shall Burn, The Black Dahlia Murder, and Frozen Soul be announced as for ‘The New Flesh’s album release show on February 20th.
Hear Tigers Jaw’s New Single (‘Primary Colors’)
Even though ‘Lost on You’ isn’t released until March 27th, that hasn’t stopped Tigers Jaw from sharing another preview of their new album. The latest cut is called ‘Primary Colors’ and highlights the familiar Tigers Jaw trope of dual vocals from Ben Walsh and Brianna Collins. The track, and its accompanying video, hone in on a bittersweet theme of reflection on time and memory.
“‘Primary Colors’ is about being so wrapped up in the aftermath of something that it overwhelms your senses entirely. When you’re stuck somewhere between reflecting on the ‘what ifs,’ and finding the resolve to move forward,” shared Walsh. “We recreated that mental space in the music video as a performance space that had doorways to memories, journeying through a relationship from the very first sparks to the slow unraveling.”
Following the release of ‘Lost on You’ on March 27th through Hopeless Records, Tigers Jaw will return to the UK to play the opening night (Friday, June 26th) of Outbreak Festival Manchester, alongside The Front Bottoms, Balance & Composure, Free Throw, and Pool Kids.
The Front Bottoms’ Brian Sella Plans Solo Album
The Front Bottoms’ Brian Sella has shared details of his first solo album. Released under the moniker of Sella, ‘Well I Mean’ will arrive on March 13th through Bar/None.
The album was recorded with Chad Matheny, aka Emperor X, and sees Sella show a gentle, contemplative side. His new track, ‘Perfect Worth It’ showcases this with its intimate acoustic and succulent horn swells.
“I’m a poet first and foremost, so my focus is always on communicating something emotionally and artistically,” Sella explains. “In this song, the lyrics explore ideas of distance and control – the space between people, both mentally and physically, stretched across space and time. It’s about the control you have over yourself, the control others have over you, and how much of that is shaped by perception.”
In parallel, Berlin-based Emperor X has shared a track called ‘Pissing With the Flashlight On’.
mclusky* Announce New Mini-Album (‘i sure am getting sick of this bowling alley’)
Last year, mclusky released ‘the world is still here and so are we’, their first album in over 20 years. However, they’ve wasted no time in delivering a follow-up, and have announced a mini-album. ‘i sure am getting sick of this bowling alley’ will be released digitally on March 24th through Ipecac Recordings. A vinyl release will follow on May 1st.

Exploring Birdsong Share New Single (’42’)
London alt-pop trio Exploring Birdsong have released their first single of the year, ’42’.
The track sees them expand their sound way beyond their piano-led origins. However, Lynsey Ward’s arresting vocals firmly remain, resulting in a track with rich, sonic depth.
Lyrically, the track leans into “paranoia, conspiracy theories and confirmation bias”. Ward expands by commenting, “It is written from the perspective of someone who has lost touch with reality, seeing patterns in their day-to-day life that are leading them to some answer, or a warning – but never quite getting the full picture of what it could all mean. Thematically, the song was drawn from personal experience in childhood, where a few coincidences with numbers could spiral into a feeling of being ‘followed’ by a number or symbol, and like the storyline of the rest of your life was being written with this at the centre, or as a clue.”
“Conspiracy theories are more rife than ever, especially after spreading like wildfire during the pandemic. We wanted to present this as a sympathetic look at how something so simple can go so wrong, and where that desperation can lead; a state of anxiety, isolation, and losing touch with the world around you. The great irony is that, to some degree, we have now become the people in the story. We each notice the number 42 so regularly now that we update one another every time it pops up somewhere unexpected.”
Exploring Birdsong will be going out on a headline tour in September. It’ll begin in Glasgow (23rd) before dates in London (24th), Bristol (25th), and Manchester (26th).
