Prince Daddy & the Hyena Announces New Album and Shares New Single

Emo rockers Prince Daddy & the Hyena will return with their fourth album, ‘Hotwire Trip Switch,’ on April 17th. Set to be released through Counter Intuitive Records, it sees the New Yorkers reunite with producer Joe Reinhart.

The album promises to show Prince Daddy & the Hyena‘s experimental and expansive side. However, as its first single, ‘Big-Box Store Heart,’ shows, they’ve not lost their ability to deliver infectious hooks.

Turnstile Cover The Stone Roses for ‘Like A Version’

On their recent trip to Australia, Turnstile headed to triple j’s studio to be featured in their ‘Like A Version’ series.

In addition to performing their own track, ‘Sunshower,’ the Grammy-winning band covered The Stone Roses‘ ‘I Wanna Be Adored’.

Vocalist Brendan Yates told the station it’s “one of my favourite songs of all time. It’s unconventional and simple, and just very beautiful.” Guitarist Meg Mills added that the track has “one of the most iconic basslines of all time. I think it’s so powerful in its simplicity.”

With the passing of Stone Roses bassist Gary ‘Mani’ Mounfield late last year, Mills “felt like a really appropriate time to pay homage to him,” she says. “Definitely as a Brit, The Stone Roses were one of those bands that every kid who had any inkling towards anything alternative just knew from such an early age. Just such an iconic band, and in my opinion, probably the coolest of all of the Manchester bands coming out at that time – just in a league of their own.”

Held. Preview Debut Album with ‘Constant Tension’

Held., the new band consisting of Douglas Robinson and Sal Mignano of The Sleeping, and Coheed And Cambria’s Josh Eppard, have shared their second single. Constant Tension’ is taken from their debut album, ‘GREY,’ which is scheduled for release on May 15th via MNRK Heavy.

The track showcases an unsettled dynamic with Robinson’s introspective words as he wrestles with his purpose. “Constant Tension’stems from an everlasting battle within myself to embrace who I am via internal reflection,” Robinson explains. “It’s all of my strengths fighting against all of my weaknesses. There is a ‘constant tension,’ a violent push and pull within my mind every single day. I let myself down so much, to the point where I often feel like I have to somewhat abandon myself and step outside to try and see the bigger picture, but the hurt inside of me pulls me back into my own thoughts. I go completely blank to try and focus, which oddly enough resorts to more tension and more clouded thoughts. It feels like an endless cycle. The lyrics to Constant Tension’ mirror all of this.”

Split Chain Release New Single (‘sylvia (i won’t belong to you)’)

Bristol “nu-gaze” crew Split Chain have released a new single. ‘sylvia (i won’t belong to you)’ is the band’s first new music since releasing their debut album, ‘motionblur’, last year.

Rooted in their familiar mix of post-hardcore and shoegaze, the sharp offering sees Split Chain step back from the chaos of touring, and stepping back into the “real world”.

“’sylvia’ was written at a very odd time for us. After finishing one of the busiest and best years of our lives, from our first time in the US to dropping our debut album, it was the first time we had a bit of time to ourselves. We were back in the “real world”, taking everything in that we’ve missed and truly realised why we do this in the first place,” reflects Split Chain frontman Bert Martinez-Cowles. “The world is horrible, hate is everywhere and living just feels like a constant struggle, with the people in control who act like it’s a game. It was a ‘Truman Show’ feeling that we couldn’t shake, which is where the song was created from, with the name being based on the character Sylvia. Its a song about how it feels that we’re living in this made up, messed up world and the wanting to not be a part of it and escape to a better place, a different time.”
