Movements Announce New Album (‘Happier Now’)

Movements have announced their fourth full-length album. ‘Happier Now’ will be released on September 4th via Fearless Records. Produced once again by Grammy-winning Will Yip (Turnstile, Title Fight, Circa Survive), the record follows 2023’s ‘RUCKUS!’ and arrives previewed by a double single: ‘Dissolve Me’ and ‘Back In My Ways’.

The first of these, ‘Dissolve Me,’ thrives with urgency, with Patrick Miranda’s emotional vocal delivery. As Movements‘ vocalist explains, the track served as ‘Happier Now’s north star. “‘Dissolve Me,’ the first track we wrote for this record, set a precedent for our writing process. Nailing the lead single for an album cycle on the first try is a significant accomplishment. It felt like the perfect culmination of energy, emotion, and growth for us sonically. Like much of the record, this song is introspective, and it’s a sort of confession about my own social behaviors and the challenges I face in navigating even the smallest or most ‘normal’ everyday interactions.”

‘Back In My Ways’ took a different route to making the cut. “‘Back in My Ways’ was a track that I kinda hated at first,” Miranda admits. “I think there was part of me that was hesitant to want to slip back into the ‘sadder’ side of our music. Sometimes the early versions of the songs we write don’t hit right away, but over time, it’s become one of my favorite tracks on the record. This song is a slow burn in more ways than one, and it’s really special.”

Its tone is more reflective with drifting guitars that peel with a haziness as Miranda’s meditative words explode with passion.

Motionless In White Confirm New Album (‘Decades’)

Motionless In White have announced their seventh studio album, ‘Decades’, out July 17th via Roadrunner Records, and shared the lyric video for lead single ‘Playing God’, featuring Corey Taylor. The album also features guest appearances from Skylar Grey and Dark Divine‘s Anthony Martinez, and was recorded in Upstate New York and Los Angeles with co-producers Drew Fulk and Justin “JD” deBlieck.

Of the Taylor collaboration, vocalist Chris Motionless says: “I can’t believe how aggressive Corey sounds. It’s an observational commentary on toxic internet culture and the people who perpetuate it. The internet has gotten worse and worse to the point where only negativity, hatred, and lies are at the forefront of everything you see. It’s very frustrating because I thought social media was supposed to be a mechanism to connect, but all it does is divide.”

For Chris, ‘Decades’ is both a milestone and a reaffirmation of what the band stand for. “We were never afraid to take risks,” he says. “This band has not only lasted two decades, but we’ve also outlasted all of the obstacles we’ve faced. We’re still grinding. No matter how far we expand the universe that is Motionless In White, we’re going to preserve the heart, soul, and roots of where we came from. We are never going to abandon heartfelt, emotional, and heavy songs. We are never going to abandon what mattered to us the most when we started. We’re finding new ways to emphasize those stories with exciting sounds and looks, but the vision is the same. It’s always been this grand, dramatic, and theatrical entity. I’m proud we haven’t gotten comfortable.”

“Decades is definitely heavier than some of our past albums,” he adds. “Our current world bred more aggressive energy, anger, and resistance.”

Turnover Set to Release New Album This Month

Virginia’s Turnover will return on May 29th, with the rekease of their sixth album, ‘Down On Earth’.

Set to be released independently, ‘Down On Earth’ marks the longest gap between records in the band’s career, following 2022’s ‘Myself in the Way’. Rather than arriving with a fixed blueprint, the band enlisted their longtime front-of-house engineer Zac Montez to produce, building songs collaboratively in the room from fragments and ideas gathered across four years. The approach was deliberate: capturing the feel of their live show on record for the first time, drawing on the energy the band first found in Virginia’s punk scene while folding in the dream-pop and new wave textures they’ve explored across recent records.

Two new singles arrive with the announcement: ‘Nightjar’ and ‘I See You and Realize’, with a video for the former directed by Ben Turok and shot around Virginia Beach. ‘Nightjar’ leans into their dream-pop sound with laid-back guitars and an overall bright presentation. In contrast, ‘I See You and Realize’ is a moodier offering with plucky guitars reminiscent of their impactful ‘Peripheral Vision’ record.

Every Hell Release New Single (‘Catching Thunder’)

Brighton / Bristol outfit Every Hell have released ‘Catching Thunder’. Arriving as their second single of the year, following Let Me Go,’ it’s also their first single since expanding to a five-piece. They have welcomed Jules Maas-Palmer on guitar and synths.

The track captures Will Gardner’s brilliant, versatile voice and is backed by a driving unit. It results as a thrilling taster of whatever Every Hell are working towards. “Catching Thunder was one of the earliest tracks that we wrote together after the ‘Vertebrate’ EP. We actually tracked it last July at Middle Farm Studios with Pete [Miles] so it’s been in the works for some time, but it was worth the wait, as this track shows the new direction that Every Hell is taking,” explains Gardner, who also plays the saxophone in the band. “Lyrically, the song is about staying strong and keeping self-belief in difficult times. The oxymoron of ‘Catching Thunder’ itself is a bit like trying to catch air…you can’t.”

“I think the first idea we had was Andrew’s (Gosden) bass line, and I had the vocal hook written for that already, and then we all jammed out the QOTSA-esque chorus riff together. The ending was a bit more contentious, and a few arguments were had around it, but that full on STOMP, dragon riding 6/8 vibe at the end just felt too good not to use. Even though it makes it a very difficult beast to play live.”

The band are on the road through May, before supporting the reformed Arcane Roots in July..

Winona Fighter Return With ‘Bombs Away’

Nashville trio Winona Fighter are back with ‘Bombs Away’, out now via Rise Records. It’s their first new music since last year’s deluxe edition of their debut album, ‘My Apologies to the Chef’.

Punchy, pounding, and fueled with a punk energy, ‘Bombs Away’ is unambiguous in its intent. Winona Fighter frontwoman Coco Kinnon offers a single line by way of explanation: “Everybody needs a song right now.”

UK Emo Newcomers fistpump! Share Debut Single (‘Toyota Hellfire’)

Pulling from midwest emo and post-hardcore, Birmingham quartet fistpump! have released their debut single – ‘Toyota Hellfire’.

Neatly blending the twiddly verses and driving choruses, the newcomers deliver a promising first track.

On how the track came together, the band say: “the process for writing this was a bit different to how we usually approach writing. We tend to write our ideas individually, then presenting them in rehearsals. This song came to be through sitting in a room with each other, catching the same wavelength and letting it all just flow, the song almost wrote itself!”

Locally, fistpump! have been building a reputation with shows supporting Vienna and Chasing Dolls. They also played the Lazy Twosteppers day festival at Dead Wax in Digibath this past March.
