Rock/pop-punk group Yellowcard have revealed details of their first album in almost a decade. The record is titled ‘Better Days’ and will be released through Better Noise Music on October 10th.
The follow-up to 2018’s self-titled album is produced by blink-182‘s Travis Barker. It will also feature guest appearances from Matt Skiba of Alkaline Trio and Avril Lavigne.
The news is joined by the release of its title track and ‘honesty I’. The former also has a video that sees the quartet depicting iconic 80s movie characters performing in a vintage video shop. Both tracks are sure to please longtime Yellowcard fans, proving to be energetic, punchy, and lyrically introspective.
Although Yellowcard have been active in recent years, releasing the ‘Childhood Eyes’ EP in 2023, they “agreed that making a new album was pointless unless it was the best of their career.” Guitarist Ryan Mendez brought in songwriter Nick Long (Machine Gun Kelly) to assist the band. Through Long, they connected with Barker, who also plays drums on ‘Better Days’. For frontman Ryan Key, the collaborating process was significant, giving him a personal and creative breakthrough.
“I started the record as one version of myself and came out the other side changed,” he shared. “I went in knowing I needed help. I came out of it writing songs like I was 19 again.”
Yellowcard initially disbanded in 2017, but would come together in 2022 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of ‘Ocean Avenue’. In addition to the ‘Childhood Eyes’ EP, the band’s material was reworked in collaboration with the cinematic post-rock group Hammock. The resulting record, ‘A Hopeful Sign’ was released in January 2024.
