This catch-up edition rounds up news from this past Thursday and Friday. Stand Atlantic and coldrain both detail new albums, while Employed To Serve confirm UK and European tour dates alongside a new single. There’s also new music from Native James and mirabelle.

There are also 29 new additions to the ‘Newish Music’ playlist.

Stand Atlantic Announce Fifth Album (‘Godbreath’)

In May, Aussie quartet Stand Atlantic returned with a track called ‘Velcro’. The alt / pop-rockers have now shared details of their fifth album.

It’s called ‘Godbreath’ and is set to be released on October 23rd via Virgin Music Group.

The record promises to see Stand Atlantic enter “uncharted waters,” blending in familiar pop-rock and pop-punk tropes.

As well as ‘Velcro,’ ‘Godbreath’ will feature the band’s new single, ‘Lucid’. The punchy album opener explores self-sabotage. “This was a hard track to figure out. ‘LUCID’ was one of the last songs we wrote for this record and I was kind of done. I felt like I was running out of things to say that wouldn’t feel super contrived,” shares vocalist/guitarist Bonnie Fraser. “So I went plain and simple, I thought ‘I’m not going to overthink this, let’s go with what self-sabotage feels like’, and explored that lyrically.”

Employed To Serve Announce UK Dates with Cabal + Share New Single

UK metal favourites Employed To Serve will be touring the UK later this year as part of a co-headline tour with Danish deathcore outfit Cabal. The tour, which also includes European dates, will feature support from Cold Culture.

The tour announcement comes as Employed To Serve unleash a new track called ‘A Moment Gone Too Soon’. The pummelling number is paired with a narrative of personal introspection.

“‘A Moment Gone Too Soon’ touches on something we’re all guilty of, taking what we have for granted and not realising until it’s too late and the sands of time have insidiously slipped through our fingers, until every grain of a reality we once knew exists only in memory,” Employed To Serve explain. “However, this is not a song focused on looking back with rose-tinted glasses, far from it. This is a track that focuses on grabbing the present day with both hands and ringing every bit of happiness and opportunity out of it. At the end of the day, it’s all we truly have.”

‘A Moment Gone Too Soon’ is the band’s second single of 2026, following ‘Dead Reckoning,’ which was released in early June.

Native James Drops New Single and Joins SharpTone Records

Following appearances at Download and 2000Trees, rising metal/grime artist Native James has debuted a new single. ‘Never Been Scared’ is a galvanising track that combines dense riffs and rapid grime bars. As well as featuring vocals from Frisco (Boy Better Know), the razor-sharp track is Native James‘ debut track on his new label home, SharpTone Records.

“Never Been Scared is what it says on the tin. This song is for people who have felt a time where they need to overcome something, whether that be your personal best, an exam, getting up to to face challenges at work, life itself… it’s a power play to your internal, to remind yourself you can overcome whatever you want,” says the Ipswich-based artist.

Native also shared his excitement of joining SharpTone. “I can honestly say it’s insane that I’m signed to SharpTone; it feels like this will be a mad chapter for me, I’m gassed I won’t lie to you, and can’t wait to start working to give you more music!”

New coldrain Album Announced

Japanese alt-metallers coldrain will return on September 25th with a new album titled ‘Optimize = Optdemise’.

Their eighth album will include previous singles ‘Incomplete,’ ‘Chasing Shadows,’ and ‘Free Fall’. It’ll also include their latest track, ‘Ex-Humanity’.

Described the band as “energetic, powerful and alive,” coldrain vocalist Masato says the track is lyrically “intentionally simple, static and full of despair.” He adds, “that contrast reflects the tension between what it means to be human and what we could become if we lose the things that make us who we are. Is this song a cry for hope or a requiem for humanity? My hope is it will not be the latter.”

With its fierce, metallic instrumentation and electronic layers, it makes for an enticing taster of the upcoming record.

mirabelle. Preview New EP with ‘F**k No’

Parisian heavy pop-punkers mirabelle. are preparing to release a new EP, ‘Losers,’ on September 11th. Having previously shared its title track, the quartet’s latest track demonstrates their heavier side.

Bluntly titled ‘F**k No,’ it sees the French band take aim at pretension and performative cool, mixing biting instrumentation with an assured anthemic execution.
