Album Review: State Lines – For The Boats

imageLong Island quartet State Lines follow up their previous offerings with sophomore record ‘For The Boats,’ one that will turn the heads of many when this release is unleashed. The indie/punk outfit have made a progression from earlier material, maturing into a band set to secure their mark in the scene.

From opener and title track ‘For The Boats,’ the record seeps a natural grasp of State Lines genre, blending indie and punk smoothly, experimenting with both within the progression of the album. The simpler, indie pop rhythms contrast with the gravelly vocals to create a combination that leads to the success of this record; producing a fresh, raw sound.

Shit For Brains’ holds grungy notes to compliment the vocal style, later contrasting with stand-out track ‘For The Ears’ which leads its focus on the indie elements of State Lines sound. This variety and experimentation with the cross over genres is admirable to say the least, and the smooth transition between both displays the band’s creativity and flair for music.

The rawness of ‘Tuesday Morning’ is yet another highlight of the record and acoustic track ‘Where It’s Warm’ draws ‘For The Boats’ to a calm, heartfelt close, yet again reiterating that this quartet are more than just a one trick pony. State Lines’ indie punk style is blended perfectly and the record takes you on a journey full of twists and turns; definitely one to check out.
