Album Review: Maker – Maker EP

Springfield, Massachusetts based Indie Punks Maker are set to release their new self titled EP on November 13th which is full of indie punk anthems.

First up is ‘Shadows’ which has a slow start as both guitars and the bassline creeps in leading into some thick guitar riffs. The strong emotional shouting vocals really work well and bounce off the melodic guitar tone as the emotion comes through with intensity.

‘You Know Who You Are’ has a slow melodic guitar tone start as the subtle vocals come in and the backing vocals it leads into some catchy guitar tones. The early dark side to the song lyrically is the opposite to the upbeat sound of the song but both elements work well together.

Third song in and I Had To Put My Lady Down’ starts off with some fast melodic guitar sounds with an added thick bassline, it then slows right down. The slow story telling emotive lyrics from frontman Dave Carter touch upon lifes problems and make a great ballad song.

The EP then picks up with a more positive and faster rockier vibe with ‘Medina’ bursting to the brim with some melodic guitar work and fast indie guitar rhythms. The last song of the EP Hurricanes’ continues to bring the positive vibes with some melodic guitar work mixed with Dave’s positive lyrics singing “Die for yourself live for no-one else”, it finishes off the EP on a high note.

Considering I haven’t listened to any of Maker’s music before I’d say this is an enjoyable five track EP that will easily keep fans happy. With the emotive vocals and the melodic guitar work mixing well with the indie punk rhythms it has a Transit/Make Do and Mend vibe to it that people will enjoy.

3/5
