Promising German emo punk/hardcore outfit Shoreline are gearing up to release their Pure Noise Records debut, ‘To Figure Out’, on February 24th. Having previously shown a flair for personal and reflective songwriting, the quartet’s latest single, ‘Reviver’, contextualises the climate crisis, and the tension surrounding it.

With its opening playful melody and groove, ‘Reviver’ erupts in the chorus with Hansol Seung impassioned vocals. On the track, the Shoreline vocalist explained the meaning behind the track and its origins.

“REVIVER is an honest statement speaking about the tension between hope and hopelessness in the context of the climate crisis. The initial inspiration was sparked by graffiti in the streets of Berlin saying: “Resignation is a privilege of those less affected,” said  Seung.

While ‘Reviver’s main influence is taken from the climate crisis, giving it a partial protest song feeling, it’s still carried with a hint of sentiment.

Seung added “REVIVER is a letter to a beloved person, who is not resigning and a constant reminder not to be too pessimistic. I think it is very easy to be overwhelmed by what is going on in the world right now. If I had to break the whole song down to one sentence it would be the pre-chorus: “If this is really the end, I want it with our fists out.”

‘To Figure Out’ is available from February 24th, and can be pre-ordered here.

‘Reviver’ Lyrics

a little shimmer in the endless dirt
is enough for us to remain defiant
your raging words became a true reminder
that not all is lost though it’s really frightening

I can tell that you are so tired of fighting over facts with all the deniers
the dragging weight of an impossible task
is cutting deep wounds in our shoulders

listen I just need you to stay
right here with me
if this is really the end
I want it with our fists out

I know it’s going down
but I don’t wanna let go
fuck that I want you around
you push me for the better
did we pass another pivotal point?
it’s going to redefine my level of hope
I know it’s going down

there is a quite slow but steady trend of changing things
a pile of loose ends is waiting but you know where to begin
I can tell that you are so tired
of fighting over facts with all the deniers
the dragging weight of an impossible task
is cutting deep wounds in our shoulders
