Sheffield emo-rockers Air Drawn Dagger have returned with a new single called ‘Castle’. Released through Long Branch Records, the track sees the Yorkshire trio deliver a raw yet playful and punchy number. While the band shared it’s “the song of protagonists,” adding that its inspiration came from a painting in Nottingham Castle depicting the night voting reform was shot down by the Duke in 1831. In protest, a mob set the whole castle on fire.

Its video is directed by While She Sleeps bassist Aaran McKenzie and sees Air Drawn Dagger embrace “immersive storytelling”, introducing fans to many characters. “This video was an ambitious one for us, we wanted to create a world that felt bigger than ourselves whilst introducing you to as many characters as possible in less than four minutes,” Air Drawn Dagger shared. “Opening with a cinematic drone shot of an on-foot chase, the entire video is full of immersive storytelling cut with frantic performance shots. By the end, we have witnessed how the chase came to be, the evolution of characters, and even the death of a hero. The last shot eliminates any doubt that there will be a part 2 to this story…”

Our first introduction to Air Drawn Dagger came in 2023 with the release of their ‘Songs To Fight The Gods To’ EP. However, the trio of Maisie (vocals), Lewis (guitar/backing vocals) and Ross (drums) had spent years paying their dues, going the DIY route. Last summer, they released an acoustic reworking of ‘Songs To Fight The Gods To’ before inking a deal with Long Branch Records.

Looking ahead, Air Drawn Dagger will play their biggest headline show at the Corporation in Sheffield on April 5th. Fans can purchase tickets here.
