Hailing from Bristol, A Tale of Two Cities have been a band that are on the cusp of most people’s lips but haven’t actually made a big enough breakthrough to be properly “recognised” – which is actually incredibly surprising, considering they’ve shared the stage with acts such as Deaf Havana, Yashin and Sonic Boom Six to name a few. And as the quintet gears up to release their brand new EP ‘New Horizons’ on Monday 15 October, here at Already Heard, we thought we’d have a listen to this up-and-coming rock band.

They kick-start the EP with single ‘Four Words’ – they crank up the tempo straight away, playing blistering riffs that burn with unspent talent. Karl Ficarotta’s vocals soar effortlessly as he roars about how “You were never left behind.” A raw yet emotive start to ‘New Horizons’, A Tale of Two Cities have set a high standard.

Moving onto ‘Familiar Traits’, it doesn’t seem as if this quintet are slowing down anytime soon. The monster bassline roars furiously, while demonic and power-hungry drumming underlies this fantastic track. During ‘Fire Burning Through Our Wings’, Ficarotta’s vocals are as strong as ever and A Tale of Two Cities refuse to let up as they close off with ‘Machine’ which features low, guttural screams: a fitting end to such a solid EP.

A Tale Of Two Cities have proven that ‘New Horizons’ is an emotive yet pretty much flawless EP. They execute each and every track with incredible precision; with such an exciting band in the UK, it’s only a matter of time before they broaden their own horizons and become a name to be spoken by everyone because they deserve it.
