Album Review: Breathe In The Silence – Hold My Heart EP

It’s not been the easiest couple of years for Wales’ Breathe In The Silence. Since their self-titled EP dropped back in 2014, their progress up the British rock ladder has been derailed several times thanks to line up changes and the usual band based annoyances. That’s never stopped them believing in their dreams and playing as many shows as possible to make sure they don’t fade out into obscurity. All the hard work and perseverance seems to have paid off as they have finally reached the release of their new EP ‘Hold My Heart’. Long time coming? You bet. Worth the wait? Most definitely.

The thinking behind ‘Hold My Heart’ seems to be quite simple: Be huge. Taking a leaf out of Young Guns’ book, the EP delivers melodies designed to be screamed from the top of mountains. These are songs that have so much blood, sweat, tears and heart poured into them by Breathe In The Silence that the resulting sound is as genuine and human as it could possibly be.

‘Promised Lands’ and ‘Devil’s Peak’ course with sky high vocal refrains that then switch to hard hitting screams of impassioned anguish, while ‘Barricade’ and the title track inject piercing sentiment with their eternally loving lyrics and deep set riffing. It makes for an all too short but no less sweet journey into the minds of Breathe In The Silence that feels familiar yet also wholly fresh and exciting.

‘Hold My Heart’ is years of work coming to fruition in the best way imaginable. Accessible yet still with enough grit between its teeth to incite a mosh pit or three, Breathe In the Silence have come out swinging and have delivered a set of songs that should see many prick up their ears and start really paying attention. The future is looking much brighter in the valleys now.

3.5/5

‘Hold My Heart’ EP by Breathe In The Silence is released on September 2nd on Crooked Noise Records.
