New Jersey’s hardcore outfit Gatherer have released their debut EP ‘Postcards’ through Glass Nail Records. This release by the five-piece is somewhat short but it’s the quality of the tracks that matters, especially when this is their very first offering as a band.

Opener ‘Wedding Bells’ kick starts the EP, introducing Christian Berrigan’s raw vocals that compliment their hardcore sounds perfectly. The passion that is expressed through the vocals is continued throughout the whole EP, which works particularly well in title track ‘Postcards.’ This is a definite standout track, with a mid section containing an infectious riff that works perfectly behind the gravelly screams. ‘Brittle Bones’ is another commendable track especially with dominant drumming in sections that produces an opposing powerful sound over softer guitar.

For a debut EP, ‘Postcards’ is a very impressive release and Gatherer should be proud of their efforts. My only criticism is the length of the record: totalling to just less than 8 minutes in length I was enjoying it so much that I wanted it to last longer. Nonetheless, musically the band has pulled it off and hardcore fans should certainly check Gatherer out, a five-piece that I look forward to hearing more from in the future.
